So I’m a new Ram truck owner and couldn’t be happier. These trucks are pretty awesome and I’m happy with the decision I made.

I wanted to know from you guys if there was anything specific to look out for like bushings, bearings or other wear items. Any specific preventative maintenance that the owners manual doesn’t call out or the interval should be different than stated.

Any info helps. Thanks!

You could do the 3rd brake light fix, i did before i had any issues, seems like thats a common thing. Very easy to do. Good thread on here about it. Good looking truck!

Oh sorry, its know to leak a little water down from the headliner when it rains.

Also, visit out synthetic oil thread, pretty long but awesome people and info.

Welcome, I've had my 2015 from new and it has been consistently capable of the work and travel I've asked from it. I expect if you maintain yours and stay within its ample qualifications it will serve you just as well.

One item worthy of mentioning to a new owner is that if yours is equipped with the 8 speed transmission (if you shift into Drive using a rotary knob you have the 8 speed) then FCA (the vehicle manufacturer) states the transmission is lubricated for life and does not require any routine servicing or fluid change. But ZF (the company which designed the transmission) state that the transmission does in fact require service in the form of fluid and filter change at routine intervals.

Lots of people debate back and forth about it and that can become quite boring. Make the choice for yourself. I'm just supplying that bit of information in case it helps you to make your own long term ownership plans.

Welcome and good looking truck. My only suggestion is don't let your significant other drive it, or you'll lose it. I have to pry the keys out of my wife's hands when we are going someplace..... :)

I think Ram addressed this. The seal on my 2018 1500 was 4x”s thicker than the seal on 2014 2500.

Gratz and Welcome!!!

Thanks for the info! Although I think I'm going to stay away from the oil thread haha. That war is across many different platforms.

Get a catch can

Catch can. 1st time you empty it you'll be very glad you installed it.

Don't blow off the Synthetic oil thread! You will learn far more than you expected there.

Welcome to our world. Now go ask for all the overtime you can work. You're gonna need it to buy all the mods to your truck that you don't even know about yet! LOL.

Catch can it is! Ok I’ll check out that thread. I had just planned on using what the manual calls for and synthetic.

Make sure you get the RPM's above 2000 every now and then, these trucks like to be driven.
Also, stick with copper spark plugs. They have to be changed more often unfortunately (remember there are 16 of them) but use a little anti-seize and those aluminum threads will be g2g. +1 on the catch can. I've dumped out some pretty gnarly sludge.

Finally, before you do anything to your truck, check and see what the guys and girls on here are doing first. It will save you a lot of headaches and you get lots of hot tips.

Hey Grandpa, stay out of the left lane! LOL
He bought a Hemi .. not a Cummins, I think you meant to say whine that engine up to 5K every now and then it's being "driven".
Even driving my EcoD I'm usually between 2-3K rpms when accelerating, and it shares the same transmission and axle gearing(3.92) as the Hemi.

He's got a 16,they generally use iridium plugs supposedly good for a 100,000 miles,i wouldn't run them that long, but techinically he can get away with 100,000 mile plug change intervals. The coils got upgraded when they went to iridium plugs, prior to MY13 the trucks were spec'd with copper plugs

Welcome and congratulations on the truck. It's sharp looking. The best advice I can give is educate yourself on the truck. If there is a mod you want to do, chances are someone has done it already. Learn from them.

You're right, i should have chosen my words a little more carefully.
What I meant to say was "Don't just let it idle and die, wind that baby up to 5k every now and then and drive it like you stole it!"

That does sound much better.
