Hello everyone,

Back in January, my 2021 all-black TRX, which had about 22,500 miles, caught fire. The cause remains unknown. When a Mopar inspector examined the vehicle, he said it was impossible to determine what happened because it was completely destroyed. The following week, Stellantis sent a letter confirming they couldn’t identify the cause and stated they wouldn’t offer any compensation since no one was injured. However, the situation could have been much worse: about 10–12 minutes after we left the vehicle that night, it exploded. For context, we don’t smoke or drink and drive.

I haven’t spoken much about this until now, but after talking with a friend today, I learned that his neighbor in Florida also owned a TRX and tragically died when his truck caught fire in front of his house. Does anyone have more information about that incident? I’m now very hesitant about buying another RAM truck with a supercharger. I was considering a Challenger, but I’m concerned about the safety of the Hellcat as well. I haven’t made a decision yet.

Here are a few pics:

If anyone has similar experiences or advice, I’d appreciate hearing your stories. Has anyone else had issues like this recently?

Stay Safe out there.

Thank you for your reply. So do you see any way we can stop in in future purchased trucks?
To keep the trans from grenading? Yeah. If you're buying a used HC make sure the driveshaft center carrier bearing is in good shape. They wear out quick, cause the driveshaft to vibrate out of balance and blow up the trans. Pretty common failure. Can also wear out the output shaft seal on the trans, slinging trans fluid everywhere. There are much better aftermarket bearings out there. JXB is one.

Another good preventative maintenance upgrade is the BMR rear cradle bushings.

Also been a couple shortbox regular cab 2X4 8 speed trucks burn to the ground, when their goofy driveshaft decided to leave the trucks, and breaks the transmissions case on it's way out.
Jon Sipple has a back bearing upgrade that he does on his upgraded 8 speeds as it's a known weak link on the 8 speeds, but i don't think he sells it seperate, you have to buy one of his transmissions to get it.
The JXB upgrade has a pretty decent rep as you mentioned.
Cradle lock-out /antihop locating arms and diff braces along with the carrier bearing upgrade go along towards keeping a hellcat on drag radials happy, still won't cover the exploding diffs if you're pushing lots of power through one
