So, I was thinking about it and I have been reading about how dealerships can tell if a Tune has been placed. There's the odometer method. If the mileage on the PCM and the Odometer are different. Then more than likely a Tune. There's the Flash counter. A system that counts the number of times the computer has been flashed and rewritten. Also, the key counter. Works similarly to the mileage counter
All of these are dependent on the time and use of the vehicle. So my idea is simply this.
What if a person was to purchase a brand new Ram with double digit mileage, practically no use. Then drive off the lot and install a Tune. Then all use and counters will be reset at the earliest point in its life. With 3 or 4 months of daily driving ahead of itself before it ever needs to be seen by the dealership again for regularly warranty covered maintenance. Could they tell?
