Hello everyone.

I have a very annoying squeal sound that is very high pitch on start up, gets higher when putting in reverse, lowers a bit when in drive. The sound seems to go away when the engine is fully warmed up. This is regarding a 2020 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi. Factory exhaust.

I believe I have found the source of the sound. It is coming from the section of the exhaust that includes the oxygen sensor (picture 1) and the metal plate around the exhaust pipe (picture 2). My assumption is that as the exhaust heads the metal expands and closes contact, but just my assumption.

Welcome thoughts on how to tackle -- is it possible to remove the sleeves? Could I use something to seal gaps? Thanks

On my 2020 Ram 2500 6.4 I found the exhaust tie bar was broken and welding it fixed my exhaust and it has stayed fixed for almost a month now. The tie bar is just to the rear of the cats and ties the two pipes together. It was hard to see, but when I had my son move the tail pipe while I looked, I saw it move.

It is easy to remove that sleeve if you cut those two clamps holding it on. If you do that maybe you will get lucky and the sound would go away, but at least you could see if there was something going on underneath. You don't really need those little heat shields on there anyway, they are for the worst of the worst case scenarios, but you can easily put them back on with a couple of metal hose clamps.

Sure don't look like they are leaking to me. If they were you would see telltale signs of soot.
I am not sure if they are leaking or not but that is where I detect the sound at the highest volume.

Are you using a mechanic's stethoscope to isolate the source of the sound?

.
Yes and it is loudest in those areas and a bit further in pipe behind Trans but gets a little less noisy the further I go.

I saw another thread from a couple years back on this very topic but having trouble finding it but seemed to be a common issue with folks.

That's helpful to know.

I don't suppose that this noise location is anywhere in the vicinity of a bearing set.

My only experience with squealing type noises is with bearing sets in idler pulleys, alternators, water pumps, or from fan belt pulleys.

Is there any possibility that a mounting bracket on something with bearings is transferring the sound to the location you have identified?
