The pentastar engine loves higher rpms. This 3.92 will get it there a tad quicker. So, why not? Thanks again. I will post pictures and before and after pulls once the gear has set and the proper break in is done. :)

Heck yeah. I'd do it on a 4x2 model in a heartbeat if the price was right! Let us know how it goes, how high your highway RPM winds up, fuel mileage, etc.

As shown in the previous section, larger axle ratios can substantially increase towing capacity. The max towing capacity of a Ram 1500 with a 3.6L Pentastar engine goes from 4,850 pounds with a 3.21 axle ratio to 7,100 pounds with a 3.55 axle ratio — which is almost a 50 percent increase. The percentage increase is not quite as significant with the 5.7L HEMI engine. With the 5.7L HEMI the 3.55 axle ratio provides a 25 percent increase in towing capacity in comparison to the 3.21 axle ratio.

my dealership agreed to change my 3:21’s to 3:92’s for a great price. Do they need to tune for transmission shift points. This gear is not offered with the pentastar. Just trying to get a little better towing and stop the transmission from constantly searching for gears when towing. Thoughts?
That's my setup from the factory. Love the 3.6 with the 3:92s!

The Rebel 3.6 comes with 3.92 gears but the tow capacity is the same or near the same as the 3.6 w/3.55 gearing.

That’s actually pretty good, for a dealership

I would think if they can get the truck to accept it has 3.92's in it, the shifting should be ok.
Just not sure if it will allow it as it isn't an option with the 3.6.
Maybe have them try to do that before the swap?
This seems to be a problem. The master tech isn’t sure it will accept the gear change. Getting nervous to do it now

I don't understand what changing rear end ratios has to do with the trans. There's no computer feedback from the ****-end that I'm aware of. The 8spd trans should be blissfully unaware and uneffected by what the final drive ratio is. It's just going to make your cruising RPMs higher.

And to further that it shouldn’t be an issue since other members already have the same set up. I’d be more concerned with a dealership doing diff work. Plus he will be able to legally tow more ;)

I agree!!!! They’ll do it as promised but won’t warranty the transmission if it’s a complete failure.

I would like to hear from those other members. The dealership tech doing the install is a good friend that’s done hundreds.

If you put smaller tires on it it effectively would be a gear change and the truck would still be fine. So changing gears shouldn’t affect it!

Well if he is a friend and you trust him then that is a different story all in it’s self, most dealerships now a days lack personnel with the knowledge and training to properly set up a differential.
