Hey guys, just traded in a 99 1500 4X4 5.2 with 53,000 on it. Yes, you read that right, 53k miles. Original Miles at that. Of course I'm looking at it as my 97 4X2 just looks homely next to it, however I did notice something and I need some opinions on it.

I've never had a 4X4 but as a car salesman I do know how they work, and basic treatment of them.

When I reach about 50mph there is a whining/drone noise that comes through the floor. It goes away around 70 mph so to me and my slight mechanical knowledge it sounds like it's nothing tooooooooo serious.

Do these trucks have a bad habit of the transfer case vibrating or going bad? Also have any of you had a similar issue and know what it could be?

4WD still engages and works just fine, just need a little heads up before I purchase this one.

The whine could be a number of things but in this case it sounds closer to maybe a hub bearing or perhaps pinion bearings in the rear. As far as transfer cases go, as long as you follow the 4wd procedure on your visor that transfer case will do whatever you need it to do and then some. Some people who heavy trail ride like to swap them for the np241 but as long as you are mildly off road the tcase should not be an issue. Other 4wd related issues can be chalked up to rotted vacuum lines leading to the axle disconnect on the passenger side of the front axle. But if your 4wd works then no worries there. Don't drop it in 4lo doing 30mph and you will be good [emoji4].

i had a humm in my truck from 35-55 mph

Turned out to be the bearing in the rear end

I ended up going with 4.56 gears and all new bearings etc inside

Humm is gone and truck is as quiet as brand new
