Howdy.. As many of you know the nicer weather is starting to make its way in so I decided to give the truck a good thorough cleaning. Bad idea lol.

I sprayed the engine compartment down with Castrol super clean and gave it a good spray down. I started it up as always and she ran fine. Realized I missed a few spots so I turned it off, repeated and rinsed. This time the truck won't start. It turns over but won't fire, I got it to run before for a few minutes but its got a bad miss, it stalled and now won't restart. I sprayed the wires with starting fluid to try and rid the moisture but still nothing.

Before I start throwing parts at it, what would some say is a good starting point? I was thinking the coil on the passenger front part of the block. It's a 98 1500 with the 360

Yeah, you just got a connector or line wet.

You are on the right track. If you are getting it to turn over, but no spark or stumble at all, then you can narrow it down to the coil.

Pull the fat line off, blow it out, dry it out and slide it back on there (I use a little bit of Vasoline on them to keep the contact clean, dry and a bit slippery so I don't tear the boot or rip the wire out the end next time I try to get it off).

How far back into the engine did you go? You might have gotten water in the distributor. If that's the case, it's a matter of popping the cap off and letting it dry out. Make sure the coil is dry as well, like Brake said.

Yep.. Called the auto store, had a coil delivered and just for the heck of it I turned the key again, fired up but ran rough so I held it at 1800 to get it warm. Once it got to temp it must have dried it out and it ran fine so I took the coil back and got some more cleaning products :mexsmoke:

Ususally moisture gets in the Distributer cap and causes bad misfiring. If you still get a misfire pop the cap and dry it. It is always best when cleaning an engine to leave it running.

Just food for thought... You probably need to replace the cap/rotor and/or the coil still. All things functioning as they should, you should not have a problem washing your engine. Cheap fixes in my humble opinion.
