Washed my 1500 mile truck for the first time and found a bunch of paint bubbles. Dealer took picks said they would call Chrysler (wait 4 days for reply) and likely end up painting hood, roof, and buffing out the rest. Roof and hood pics below but there are spots on the A pillar by the 3rd brake light and the driver side door. Dealer said it's a factory flaw and not caused by something after I bought it.

I DON"T want a 1500 mile truck with a re-painted hood and roof with other areas wet sanded and buffed. Does anyone have any idea if I have a leg to stand on here or do I just take it in the ass with whatever they want to do?

Good god those will not buff out so looks like a complete repaint. I would bet you have more show up over time cause it looks like those panels were not preped right or something was sprayed on them before painting.

I'm not calling you out, and I apologize if you think I am, but how didn't you notice that upon delivery!? Wow that is ugly. I'd be more pissed at the dealer than Chrysler, for missing this prior to selling it.

I think that with the truck being brand new a partial repaint would be OK since it would probably blend correctly, as long as that's all that needs to be done. Also, my thinking is similar to above... If you get the known areas repainted, it's highly possible that other non-repaired areas may start to show this down the road.

Its like they are growing / spreading. I looked at the truck when I bought it and they weren't there. I swear there are more on the hood now than last week. Maybe the 85 degree days and being in the sun while at work is making them crop up?

If that's the case they better repaint the whole thing.

I would continue to document with good photos weekly if you think it's getting worse as well as photo all the currently unaffected panels in case they start to go. Do the same with any area that get repaired in case they do a half ass job on the repaint. In the meantime I'd push for a full repaint by a reputable body shop.

I would tell them to just prep and paint the whole truck and in the meantime give you a daily driver (get a hemi to romp on). I also read about this in a thread somewhere. It was kinda the same type problem with a new trucks paint. I believe they told him something about the vehicle was touched with some type of oil or oily hands before paint or something like that, cant remember exactly. Take the new paint job and rag one of their hemi "loaners" until you get yours back. maybe even get some upgrades to yours for the hassle (like 35s or lift or something, LOL).

Just started seeing these show up on my paint, we did a very thorough inspection before delivery and these were not there(4 months and 2,000miles ago) . Any reason why they would start to show up months after delivery. Repainting on a brand new truck just seems outrageous!
Let us know how it goes and good luck!

What did the dealer tell you?

I emailed Ram and this is their reply:

Congratulations on the purchase of your new 2014 Ram 1500!

I regret the paint issues your vehicle has experienced and want to thank
you for the time and effort you took to bring this matter to our

Your case will require contact to the Dealership. As the Dealer is
closed, I will be contacting them on the next business day. I will keep
you updated on your case.

Thank you again for your email. Should you require additional

My Ram dealer called, the truck has been approved to be painted. All of the damaged areas will be repainted and they will be giving me a loaner vehicle - nothing more nothing less. First and last Ram / Chrysler I will purchase.

How long are they looking at taking to get this done for you? Are they taking the panels and glass off and painting the jams too? I wouldnt let them do any less. Is there maybe a color you wanted they didn't offer? Just something to make it sweeter? It's a shame it's turned you off completely from the brand but I'd be as well. Both the dealer and factory are to blame here.

THIS! This situation really sucks man, but unless you dealership has a huge collision bay, the chances of them actually doing a proper repaint is slim to none.

Offer to let them get you another truck, and they can try to sell a repainted truck to someone else.

They are going to paint the roof, hood, passenger side a-pillar, drivers door, and around the back glass. They will not give me another truck, they will not paint the entire truck or the jams.

All hope is not lost. I talked to a manager at Chrysler, the person above the original email contact from above. I told her I wanted to be compensated for depreciation of value and I wanted an extended warranty on the paint. She agreed to an extended paint warranty and asked what I wanted for depreciation and I was stumped so she is suppose to call me Wednesday with an offer and I am suppose to have an idea what I want.

I would price the depreciation value at the cost of a complete repaint plus a little more for all the running around BS you had to do.

I am going through the same thing, luckily mine was just the roof. My truck is at the body shop right now, and they told me it's solvent pop caused my either bad prep or someone at the factory had oil or something on there gloves. I'm getting the whole roof repainted. The good thing is now my roof is under warranty for at least the time I have it I'm not sure if it's transferable or not. Chrysler isn't known for there paint but at least they are taking care of it and not fighting us on it. Good luck and hope there aren't anymore issues because I love my truck other than the paint issues.

Here is a pick of my roof.

go get a quote at a reputable body paint shop, ask for quotes on a complete respray, which would be necessary to put it back in excellent conditions by KBB standards, and that should be more then fair for a compensation for depreciation.
