I will admit this is my first truck and I am loving it! The best description is like riding a Clydesdale. You see everything around you and you have a certain swagger knowing that you have speed, power and capability on tap. I'm actually looking for bumps and mud.

Continuing from my prior thread, I got it with 20 miles on the odo. Pretty much negated moto man's break in suggestion but I went ahead and did several running full throttles. So far no unusual sounds or vibrations at 100 miles. I started engaging the 4wd auto today to initiate the tranny breakin.
My only concern was that it was raining when I got her so I wasn't able to inspect thoroughly. Alas like in other threads, there was a small penny sized exposed sheet metal at the weld line below the driver side passenger cab. There was also the beginning of Rust! Anyway, I'm gonna head over to get a nice can of rust oleum and call it a day. I also ended up buying GAP insurance from the dealer at $750 which is turning out to be a bit overpriced after I researched it . Good news is I have 60 days to cancel for full refund. Any suggestions on cheaper GAPs? I'll post pictures once I get settled.

Why do you have gap insurance? Did you finance above book value?

I bought gap insurance for my daughter's car from my insurance agent. I'm spending $5 per month and I appreciate this thread reminding me to cancel it since the car is paid off.

Agreed. I havent owned a "car" since 1998 when i replaced my Ford Escort with a Ram 2500 with the Magnum. Since then I've had a Grand Cherokee, then a another SUV, before making the switch for good. a 2006 Ram Laramie Quad cab 4x4, followed by a 2008 Laramie Quad cab 4x4, and now a 2015 Laramie Crew cab 4x4.

your paying full coverage on a car right?

if it gets in a accident, won the full coverage replace it?

Typically, full coverage covers the market value of the vehicle at the time of incident and not necessarily the loan balance... GAP insurance covers the difference or the "gap." :)

Congrats on the new truck!! Hold off and let the dealer paint that properly for you! That's what your warranty is for.......

I put a low down payment of 8k on a truck that's cost 47k so I owe the bank 39 k. Now if it gets stolen or totaled or deemed a complete loss eg from flood, hurricane etc tomorrow, my insurance will only pay me 28 to 30k less a deductible of 500-1000. The reason there is a difference is that the taxes you paid won't be reimbursed and in addition the minute you drive off the lot your car starts depreciating precipitously initially then levels off.
The problem with this scenario is I will still owe the bank around 10k. GAP will cover this shortfall. I looked around and they seem to run in the 300's not the $750 I payed so come Monday, I'm definitely shopping.
In theory, once you start getting more equity on the truck, you're better off cancelling. Hope this helps.

At 8k down you shouldn't need gap insurance.

This is true and the main driving factor behind such high MSRP, which is what NADA values take into consideration and in turn impact insurance values. Of course, this is also what makes it difficult to total a brand new truck. A friend of mine was hit head on, truck was 2 weeks old. Bent frame, not totaled, they fixed it. $32k in damage...
