I’ve got the ‘15 big horn up on 6 ton jack stands for a while. I’ve got the front end out. Waiting on a couple more parts. 160,000 miles. Most of that up north.

However, one of the first things I noticed was a small bit of oil . It’s around one of the bottom screws. I cleaned the entire thing off and did a little minor surface rust removal. Just so I could keep an eye on it.

A week later, I noticed there’s like a drop of oil or two near the bottom corner around that housing screw. I cleaned it off again this morning.

I understand this truck does not have a power steering reservoir. So it’s some sort of electronically assisted steering.

But what is this part? And is there a repair for this?

Thanks for any helpful adviceIMG_6120.jpegIMG_6119.jpegIMG_6121.png

There is no oil inside that EPS rack.

Most likely, that oil was spilled onto the rack from the oil filter, above the rack by whoever did your oil change.

Or, possibly something above it is leaking

But 99/100'ths of the time, it's from the oil change guy.

The oil filter tends to leak oil all over that rack as Ken has said, someone did not cover nor clean the rack after changing the filter.

The oil change guy was me!!!!

I’m usually extremely thorough about getting all of the excess oil off everything when dropping the filter.

I’m right there with you, I have covered the rack with tinfoil, old towels, and taped plastic around it to keep the oil off the rack.

It helps some but by the time I’m finished switching filters, always end up with some oil on the rack.
