Ok, new here, first post. Ram 2019 hemi with the active grill shudders. I want to disable them. Summer in New Jersey is hot right now. If I pull the fuse out will that keep the shudders open all the time, that's what I want. Keep engine cooler. Let me know what you think or do you have better idea. Thank you....

Removing or disabling the shutters will not keep the motor cooler. They are closed when engine is cold to assist speed to warm up. Above a certain temp, they open and stay open, they also fail in the open position. Want lower engine temps, change your thermostat, program your fan to come on at a lower temp with Alpha OBD, and set shutter to open at the same temperature or kower as you don'twant the fan running with the shuttera closed.

YOur owner info is a little confusing, do you have a Hemi 5.7, Hemi 6.4 or the Diesel 6.7? If Hemi 6.4 or Diesel 6.7 you have the 2500 or 3500 so ignore the paragraph below.

Also, check out the Caulk4 Transmission fix that will help your transmission run at a much more civilised temperature. Lots of threads on here about it.

If that is all the fuse controls, yeah IMOP for the meantime. Otherwise, completely delete, as in get rid of it. I personally don't see any need in it that is TRUELLY beneficial. Just some Fancy Nancy tax payer funded requirements. I heard Nancy is sisters with Debby Downer though??? My two cents, proceed with caution on my stupid advice, I do 75% jokes, 15% somewhat helpful information and 10% useful information around here and whatever is left in that math is dedicated 100% fact and truth. LOL. Another fuel efficiency design, required for future earthly sustainability false based science projects and perks paid for by us and you don't get that perk, just going to pay for it! You could probably leave them in though and drive your truck less, we can't have carbon dioxide leaking into the atmosphere, boosting photosynthesis and creating overgrown nature. I mean, what if your Oaktree in your front yard grew to 300 feet tall or like farms could make twice as much food. That would be bad!!! :DThere might be a better answer around here, maybe even a programmable delete. Let's see what the gentlemen have to say about this, disregard my nonsense...........

If your truck is a Classic, just pop out the center shutters, leave 1 on top and 1 on the bottom on both sides, and you won't have any check engine lights. If you flex them in the middle, they'll pop out.
What grill do you have? If not the Honeycomb still, you can change the grill inserts to the more open and better flowing honeycomb grill.
Here's a picture of both the Sport grill and the Honeycomb grill. You don't want the Sport style as it restricts airflow to the rad.

You may not need them in the winter in FL, but once you get around the 38th parallel going north you would like to have them to help warm up your engine.

Spot on. I love mine. No need to put a winter front on every November, and they auto adjust to ambient and engine temp. No more opening and closing flaps manually.

I installed thermostats to make it not warm up so much. Cold start snappy all the time is way more fun. LOL. No wonder dad had to warm up the truck for like 10 minutes that one horrible time in my life I was living in the 38+ parallel back in the late 70's. OP, if not easily programmable as delete/return to normal option, I change my advice. Own two grilles, one for the summer and one for the winter. Sorry your dealing with this. It should just be a button on the front console (On/Off). That would be true if it was about you, the customer and was about supreme functionality. But, it's not. Good luck man!

OK, I have a ram classic. If I remove 1 or 2 from the middle (seems easy enough) can they be replaced back in when winter comes? If so I will do that.

Alfa OBD can NOT set fan temps. That is done in the PCM.

There is a guy on FB that sells a shutter delete kit if you want that. Or just do as Wildone said.

180 tstat is a must though IMO.

I seem to remember the consensus that all 180 aftermarket tstats are crap, are there any decent options?

This makes me want to pull my grille shutter motor and do some measuring and see if I can 3d print some delete brackets for it... Might be something I do when I get home from work in the morning.

Didn't measure mine when I did the mod, but here is end result after pulling arm off and moving it one notch on the shaft.

Here is a you tube video showing how to do it.

Learned something today, I did not realize the fan temps were in the PCM. My 2500 has the shutters and does not run hot so I haven't tried to change mine. Thanks.

I have my motor bypassed, but I don't think I had to move the lever arm. I forget how I did it.

Yes. They’re easy to pull out and put back in once you pull the grill.

I only have the very upper and very lower shutter. Been that way since right after I bought it. Those two shutters are pretty much out of the flow of air and will not restrict enough flow to ever be noticed.

Much easier than doing a full delete, and cost nothing but less than an hour's time.

The truck will still see 225+ degrees on a long hard mountain pull or stop and go traffic on a hot day, thanks to the stupid programming that takes a team of engineers to change.

To replace them you just flex them again to pop back into their spots, you can usually get an arm down in front with-out removing the grill to pop them out,but to reinstall them you'll want to remove the grill

My truck warms up quickly in any temperature without the shutters. I live in the foothills of the mountains, and it gets quite cold here, not below zero cold, but single digit cold sometimes.

I've never seen any reason to replace them during the winter unless maybe if you live where the temps regularly get below zero, and maybe not then.

I have never owned a vehicle that warms up as fast as this one does. I don't know if the Hemi warms up fast, but the Pentastar will show temp movement within a couple of minutes after start up in cold weather.
