I just installed new rotors(Power Stop Evolution Drilled and slotted) and pads(Power Stop Z36) on my truck and now I have a constant grinding sounds from both sides when I’m not even using the brakes. I can hear it louder in some spots as the tire turns.

I took the rear apart and made sure the pads were able to slide and they were. I had applied Sil-Glyde to the slides so they should move freely.

Any ideas? How can I figure out what is causing it?

Did you check the rotors by spinning them with the tires off front and back? If the caliper wasn’t positioned correctly you could get grinding.

Also lubing the shim between pad and caliper can help.

Most likely it’s the pads are brand new and need to be worn in a bit.

I just had the same issue on my 2011 Ram 1500: bought drilled slotted rotors and Brake Stop pads. Continuous grinding noise. Took it to the Ram dealer and they replaced my ebrake to the tune of $1,000.00 still have the noise. Driving me nuts. Please help. Thanks. Mike

I haven’t tried spinning each one individually. I will give it a shot tomorrow.

I thought mine could be the parking brake as well since I already had one side that locked up. I made sure it was completely released on both sides but I still have the sound.

Not trying to be negative but did you check if the lug nuts are tight?

Lug nuts. Good point. I’ll check them in the morning. Thanks. Micheal

I’ve only driven maybe 5 miles. Maybe I will try driving it a little longer and see if it stops.

Check the brake pad hardware to make sure it isn’t touching the rotor. If you installed it incorrectly the hardware could be hitting the rotors. I just installed Power Stop Z36 ceramic pads and drilled and slotted rotors and had my drivers side front brakes not release so I took it apart and lubed everything up again and it seems to be better now.

I just always put a little dab of brake grease on the back, most pads come with metal shims, or you save the ones from the factory and reuse them if they don’t .

Edit: I should make sure to say, you definitely have to make sure you don’t get any on the pad itself, just the back.

When you did your brakes were any of the calipers seized? Did you grease the caliper pins under the rubber boot? I try to replace the boots when I do the brakes as well. I had to get a caliper replaced under warranty twice now on my journey.

Are they grinding from every wheel? There's a good chance either a piece if the slide/shim is bent and rubbing the rotor. Also check you didn't bend out the shield, it doesntt take much and the tiniest bit will sound way worse than you think.

check the rotors to see if any grind spots, but the brake grease is a must. I did it once and only once not using the grease and they were noisy, redid them using the grease and no problems ever. But i did have a clip come loose one time and trashed the rotor, was far away from home but had no choice to drive it, so a 60-70 dollar rotor was cheaper then a tow

I had two things going on. One is the parking brake was stuck partially engaged. I adjusted the star wheel and got it free.

I then narrowed it down to one corner. The back metal shroud is warped and rubbing on the caliper. I just need to figure out how to get it bent away from the caliper enough.

I used Sil-Glyde. I got it from AutoZone.

A few things to check... find out what corner it is happening from by having someone stand outside and listening closely. Once you have it narrowed down, make sure the parking brake is off and then jack up until you can turn the wheels by hand. Listen for the sound closely and you can hopefully narrow it down to front or back of the rotor. With mine, I heard a grinding in the back. That is when I took off the rotor and found the rub spot on the back metal shroud deal. It took me bending it a few times and spinning the hub to finally get the grinding to go away.

I would not even drive it anymore till you figure it out. I would pull everything apart and double check EVERYTHING. I know it's a stupid question but did you put the brake pads in the right direction?
