Howdy yall, I have a grinding sound coming from my truck when driving. I thought it was the rear axle bearings. I just replaced those today but my truck is still making the grinding sound while driving. Has anyone else experienced this/ know what the issue is? I have a 2013 ram 1500 sport with a 5.7

I had a similar noise a few years ago that ended up being a bad pinion bearing in the rear differential. Had 75000 miles on it at the time. My truck before this one, a 2010 Ram 1500 also had the pinion bearing go at about 100,000 miles.

I'll guess it's brakes. Remove your pads, clean up the bracket and grease the clips. Start the process of elimination. Good maintenance and easy to do.

Yes, ^^^^This^^^^.

I had something similar, and I did my rear axle bearings and diff service. There was a bad axle bearing, but I had noise in the front as well.

Turns out, I had a unevenly worn front insde brake pad that the backing plate was chewing up the rotor.

Also, check your front hubs. Not unusual to have issues there.

Here's to finding the issue, and for a lasting fix.

EdG's (and others) have good advice. I wouldn't bother with the video. It's going to be like throwing darts. Wasting an hour of your time. We don't know what exactly the conditions were when the noise was made. Lot of things can make grinding noises, including a rock between the pad and rotor, a bad u-joint, failing front hubs, front diff disconnect, Center driveshaft u-joint, a shield dragging on the driveshaft or 20 other things.

Use your time wisely to put the truck up on jackstands remove the wheels, put it in N (maybe remove the D/S) ...and start checking things over methodically. If you don't know what you're doing, you're better off taking it to your experienced mechanic. Otherwise its just a guessing game and guys have already given you their guesses. Good luck. Hope it's something easy to resolve.
