That's pretty sharp, Apiazza! Can I ask what size your wheels are/offset? Any spacers needed? Side note- what kind of antenna is that?? Whenever I go to the carwash I think mine's gonna get ripped off!!

Wheels are 17x9 -12 raceline shift wheels with ridge grapplers. Definitely no spacers in this case. The 0 offset would look good with small or no flares. Mine are very wide and the -12 brings tires to about flush. I would probably consider going -6 if I was to do it all over again, but I'm still very happy with the overall package. Obviously all personal preference. The antenna is from Amazon. Rydonair is the maker. Inexpensive and not a major reduction in reception. They recommend removing it for the car wash.

I have my 5100 at 2.8. I had the Mevotechs until one of ball joints wore out.
Plus I had alignment issues running the Mevotechs.
What is a recommended UCA to buy?

Can anyone shed some light on the relationship of offset to bearing/other part premature wear? I've seen a few posts on this thread which mention premature wear of parts when negative offset wheels are installed. I want to go with a 0 to -XX offset.

How Much Your Tires Will Stick Out

One question I see guys ask all the time is “how far do your tires stick out” or “how far will my tires stick out running *insert rims/tires here*”. While this is also one of those things with thousands of answers, I will outline some of the typical dimensions. Again, these are based on 35x12.5 Toyo MT’s or Nitto Trail Grapplers. Smaller tires or AT tires will not be sticking out as far. These dimensions are also the distance past the fender itself. If you have flares you can subtract the coverage of your flare to find out how far they will stick out.

35x12.5 on 20x9 0 offset rim 1 5/8”
35x12.5 on 20x9 -12 offset rim 2 1/8”
35x12.5 on 20x10 -12 offset rim 2 1/2"
35x12.5 on 20x10 -24 offset rim 3”

I've googled tire/rim size chart, and the max tire width they say to run on a 9" rim is 265mm. The examples you give above equate to a 315 on a 9. Is that possible? -Mark

Nitto's website says ridge grapplers can be mounted on wheels 8.5-11" wide. I would trust that over some random chart on the internet that probably doesn't consider the size of the sidewall.

If you run 22x12 will the part wear faster than 20x10 I tryna lift my 14 ram 4x4 with a 6 inch Rough Country Suspension Lift with the premium N3 shocks and the lifted N3 struts will that get the job done

Hi all. New here. New to this. How good are these 5100’s off-road? If no good, what’s good for minor off roading? Nothing extreme like rock climbing or sliders needed type of off roading. Just old dirt, gravel roads, washboard roads. Truck used about 50/50 on/off-road.

Are the Bilstein 5100’s compatible with air suspension? The ones I’m seeing say they aren’t, do I have any other leveling options beside spacers?

The ram air suspension uses an air strut so you can’t use 5100’s. BDS makes a 4” lift for the air suspension or u can get level links. I used CFT level links on my old 16 ram w/air suspension and was happy with the ride and look. I had 285/60/20 BFG’s on stock 20’s

5100’s are street shocks, you can put them in the dirt like the factory ones but they’ll fade quickly like any other conventional street dampener if you’re trying to have some fun in the dirt. They’ll be fine if you’re driving miss daisy across washboards in the desert :).

What’s good for speed/dirt offroad action with your factory mid travel lower control arms: King 2.5 Coilovers in the front with your choice of aftermarket UCA and King 2.5 rear shocks. Spend once cry once. They come with reservoirs already and you can get their optional DSC adjusters if you wanted as well.

Similar performers you have Fox, Radflo and Icon, though with Icon you get a little less performance in the front as they don’t add a reservoir to their CO’s even if you ask for it, without a res they can’t add CDC either so they only have those options in the rear.

Below the 2.5 body shock options for max performance using your factory length lower control arms that you have above, you can also have a setup that I consider mid entry level performance from Icon where you get 2.5 CO’s in the front and 2.0 shocks in the back for a more attractive price. Icon Stage 2 accomplish the performance level and you can opt to have reservoirs with those 2.0 shocks to get every ounce of performance they can give you.
Get your choice of aftermarket UCA.

Below this you have entry level performers if you get Bistein 6112 front with 5160’s in the back, guarantee the 5160’s will fade 5 min later than 5100’s... lol their res is a gimmick, but you can use Icon 2.0 shocks with or without a reservoir. Icons have digressive valving so they will pair good with the Bistein 6112’s which are digressive as well. Problem here you can rebuild icons by yourself or let somebody do it for you, But only Bilstein in Poway CA will get those 6112’s rebuilt for you.

Then you have Falcon shocks similar in performance with the 6112s front and they give you a matching performer in the rear. They use your factory front springs. Rebuilds will be done by Falcon only.

All this options will give around 2.5” lift. An aftermarket UCA is highly recommended.

Then below this you have Fox 2.0 shocks, you’re limited to just 2” of lift with this option but honestly a 2.0 CO doesn’t have the displacement to hold the weight of our trucks at speed in the dirt but at least you could push that setup harder than 5100’s under the same circumstances.

Good luck with your choice and happy wheeling.

Thanks. Greatly appreciate this very informative response. Definitely look into those options.

Hey everyone! Very informative...

I have been scouring the forums for awhile now about leveling / lifting my 2018 ram. But I haven't seen any mention of the possibility of still using your spare tire (or not) if needed. I'm thinking if eibach kit 2.75 front 1 rear and probably 295/60/20.

Also with the diameter change of the wheels... do you need to adjust the computer somehow to not throw off your mileage / speed calculations?

Aloha,

I have been doing a lot of research on here and I believe that the setup I want will work. But I am looking for the warm fuzzy. I am thinking of going with Bils up front set at 2.1 and 1.5" spacers in the rear. I would like to run 35x12.50’s. Will they fit with an 18x9 rim? What offset would work?
Lastly, will the rear stock shocks over-extend too much? Thoughts?

Mahalo! (For those of you who visited Hawaii, it is not a trash can, lol)

I have bils at 2.8 with a .75" rear spacer. 35x12.5 on 17x9 -12 wheels. I have no contact at all. At 2.1 you might not clear at -12 but I would think you would at -6. I can't say for sure though. Probably really close. 7a0e97316cabdb883b008419ec062815.jpg260445a99e2f04c3359b4643fe76bd5f.jpg

So I'm running Bilstein 6112s at 2.3" front and their 1" rear coils. Before I put oem 20s on I ran 315 70 17s with 1.5" wheel spacers and no rubbing, including offroad. There was a SLIGHT kiss on the one wheel liner that I had to search hsrd to find, heated the liner with a torch and mushed it back and all was good. With the 1.5" spacers I was effectively at -12 offset. It was close, but never rubbed. That being said my tires did hit my fender flares up top when I jumped my truck, so just don't jump it and you'll be good [emoji16]1f60f6ca4a9740a13a9772271ffb4133.jpg
