Finally got my wheels and tires, XD Misfits wrapped in 35" Trail Grapplers. Love the look of both, makes the truck look tough. Anyway, at about 40-50mph and then at highway speed (65-70mph) my steering wheel shakes back and forth. Not a lot, maybe 1/4in each way. I have a leveling kit but this never happened with the stock wheel and tire set up. I'm wondering if that is due to the tires being chunkier than I am used to or if they were not balanced correctly. I was not expecting them to run down the road like the stockers but I just want to see if it normal to have a bit of shake in the wheel from them. Its not even bad enough that I really care (except when running 70mph+, which is not often) but I just want to make sure its all dialed in correctly.

I don't know. I can only assume the place that mounted and balanced them did it right. Got them from SDWheelCorp. All they do its wheels and tires, ship all over the world. I would have to imagine they are correct. I just ordered Bilstein 5100's so when I take it in for an allignment after install I will have them throw them on the balance machine and see if they are off at all.

Take them back to your tire shop and ask them to rebalance them.

I just got 35 trail grapplers on my truck and they don't do that.

Alignment could be off too. When I first had my Trail Grapplers they actually went back and swapped my driver and passenger fronts and all was good.

If they came from the distributer mounted to the wheels already I would definantly take them to a reputable tire shop and have them re balanced. It's not that expensive and will most likely fix your problem.

definitely check to get them rebalanced. If they aren't balanced correctly you'll see irregular tread wear over time. You don't want that on those sexy tires.

Well, rears were off too. Surprise surprise. Glad it was an easy fix. Annoyed that I had to pay to have done what should have been done correctly in the first place but I will deal with that tomorrow. Thanks for the help guys.

I didn't have them shipped. They are local to me so I just went and picked them up. They order the wheels and tires, then mount an balance them in house. I guess they "static" balance, so the weights where all in the middle of the inner wheel not to the outer edges. Either was truck runs down the road much better now.

happened with my 305/55/20

#1 , my wheels needed the hubcentric rings, so check if your wheels are missing them.

# 2, have them rebalanced but using the tire match or road force balance method ( different name everywhere ) . This is when they balance the tire with a load, so it's a more exact balance, HELPS OUT A TON

# 3 , check your alignment, they swapped my left and right tires to get it closer to spec.

Their shop is just a warehouse where they ship in wheels and tires, mount and balance then ship out, or in your case pick up. Their customer service is great, they refunded me the money I had to spend on having them rebalanced. Prices are really good as well. They can get almost anything.

i work at a tire shop and i run into this issue a lot. the problem with a static balance is that it really isnt a true balance and just throws it in the middle and tries to even it out. with an alloy 1 or alloy 2 balance it is a true balance because there is weights on the outer and inner edge of the wheel to counteract any heavy spots in the tire. the main reason they do static balance is because doing an alloy 1 or alloy 2 balance on that big of a tire sometimes calls for an enormous amount of weight on it. ex. 7.50 oz on inside edge and 4.0 oz on outer edge

*sorry about the long reply lol*

Well even after having them balanced correctly I still have a sloppy front end and a shimmy in the steering wheel. Saturday the leveling kit comes out and Bilsteins go in and with that an allignment. An inspection of the front end components as well. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this because the truck feels like it is all over the road and their is def slop in the steering wheel. Running stock wheels and tires none of this was ever an issue. I a thinking maybe the leveling kit has worn some stuff out and the 35's just made it more apparent. Idk, we will see after Saturday. If nothing seems to be messed up and the above does not solve the issues it is going to the dealer on Monday.
