I'm a Ham. I'll soon be installing my radio in the Ram that I used to have in my F-350. There are (2) 1/4" coax cables I need to run under the truck from the rear, terminating under/behind the rear seat (where the actual radio will locate).
On the old Ford, there was a conveniently located rubber plug on the back side of the cab which made it very easy to route the cables. This truck doesn't appear to be as simple. Any suggestions other than drilling?
Thanks a lot for any ideas, Dave

If you don't have a manual transmission, there is the hole where clutch goes through the firewall. It will makes the cables a little longer but it is easy to fish the wires to the back.

Thank you for that tip. That will be handy for running the dedicated 8g wire from the battery. Unfortunately not a good route for the coax. I'm afraid adding that much length may create unwanted RF issues. But, I may not have a choice.
Thanks again!

Did you find a good location behind the cab ? I'm getting ready to run coax and control wiring for a screwdriver antenna in my 2011 1500 CC this weekend. Anything you've learned would be appreciated! :) 73, Chuck, K4CHW

Chuck, I have done nothing! Routing the wiring is not as much concern as mounting antenna. With the Ford I was able to use a very simple mount that fit right between the tailgate and jamb. Super clean, perfect height, and invisible when antenna was removed. That spoiled me. Discouraged, I guess I lost interest. Plus HF has been pretty lousy for me lately, at least from my base here in San Diego.
I use an ATAS screwdriver that threads on to a UHF mount. Makes for easy on/off. What are you using.
BTW, my email is in QRZ. If you have pictures of antenna configuration, I'd like to see.
Thanks and 73

Probably but never written up. In the next couple of months I'm going to do the rear folding seat modification, replace the cabin air vent filters, and install my Amateur Radio, work 2-way, work walkie talkie, and CB radio. I'm also installing my inverter behind the rear seat. All of the radios except for the jerk-and-run walkie talkie have remote heads so the "radio" will be behind the rear seat, control heads up on the dash. I'll do a writeup on the whole project once I get some time off work and get the radio project started.

I used hamstudy.org on the pc and app for phone, hour or so a day, your good to go couple of weeks. You will have plenty time to study testing sites are closed right now. Word of advice TAKE the GENERAL soon after the technician. Easier while its all fresh on your mind.

@U&A post up pics of your install in here.

Hey guys KD5ZPN here and this is my Yaesu FT-7800 install. The RAM mount for my cell phone has since moved to the upper dash. Body of the radio is under the back seat, and I did drill a hole in the roof. I was debating getting a Breedlove Mount for the corner of the bed, but went this route instead, no leaks and works great.

I will sir,

Later tonight. The wife has me doing stuff[emoji58]

Some how my chores can be done by myself (I prefer it that way) and all hers she needs my help to do.[emoji2955]

I SERIOUSLY want to sit down for like 2 hours and program more repeaters and organize them in the banks.

Fun stuff[emoji16]

Also, did not know this thread was here so thanks for bringing it to my attention[emoji41][emoji1303]

Ok.

Icom 2730A
Diamond antenna
External speaker is on order
All cords are wrapped in an abrasion protection cover.

Im a welder and im currently running the laser/break press department and doing all the blueprints for the shop.

Made a bracket to magnetically hold the head at a 45 degree angle so it is easy to see/use while driving and it is a VERY solid bracket. 11ga mild steel

Control cable for the head is run through the little cubbyhole just behind it and then under the floor center consul to the radio body that is zip tied to the bottom of the driver seat.

Antenna and power cable a run under the plastic floor under the driver seat. Then under the plastic trim on the floor in the door opening. Through the firewall ( clutch pedal delete plate. Thank you jeff)to the fender antenna bracket.

Dont forget my water bottle rain cap.[emoji16]

Shout out to my good friend and “brother” @AFMoulton for helping me with this setup. Everything I purchased and did was done with his help.

Thanks again sir!!

Thank you sir

Well it has only been operational for like a week so.....so fare i love it! But time will obviously bring out the likes and dislikes.

Ordered the external speaker today because its hard to hear with the radio body under the seat.

Want to remove The antenna bracket and put something better in between it and my fender to prevent it from rubbing. It came with some cheap foam pieces that are too small and insignificant.

Still need to RTV the hole in my clutch delete plate where the wires go through but I’m waiting a bit longer to make sure I’m OK with this set up.
