look at the Colorado, and Tacoma sales. Fiat should be rethinking dropping the Dakota.

From a business standpoint, FCA made the right call for dropping the Dakota.

Sales of the 3rd gen went from 100K units to a low of 10K units. It was 90% the size of a full size ram. Occupied the same production plant as the current USA made RAM's and with later dismal sales, was not earning it's keep. FCA drooping it allowed then to increase full size production.

Talk is cheap and boards like this just keep the fandom alive but do not necessarily equate to a larger potential market base clamoring for it.

Kind of sad the Dodge created the mid-size market and has now lost it to competitors. If the price was right and the market was still there, they would be still making them.

If it ever comes back, I see it being built in Mexico.

I had owned the last generation made of the Dakota and I think one reason it was whipped by the other small size pickups was mainly because Dodge didn't keep up with the power plant and the interior appointments. The 3.7 needed an upgrade very badly. It lagged behind the competition in horsepower and fuel mileage. Interior wise it looked much lower class then the others.

On the positive points, the exterior styling was top of the heap and the size was better then the others. I had a crew cab and it was actually comfortable for rear seat passengers. In my mind superior to the RAM Quad Cab.

The point Hootbro made about the size being almost equal to the RAM is true, but I think if the interior and engine was brought up to the standards of the competition it would do well against them and I believe there is room for the Dakota and RAM in the marketplace.

They had the option for a v8 in the Dakota. Also I think the last Dakota was the ugliest of all. The gen before was the one to have

Ram is cutting into Ferd and Gub'mnt Motor's full sized sales.

I wonder, if Ferd was selling a Ranger and Ram had a Dakota whether there would be a difference there too in comparison to the Colorado and Canyon?

They did offer the V8 but for those wanting to save on gas the 6 cylinder barely got better mileage then the 8 and the 6 cylinder offered by Toyota was on par with the Dodge 8 power and had much better fuel economy.

As far as exterior styling, different strokes for different folks. I think last generation was a vast improvement from previous generation. The front grill style and front hood and fenders made it look like a modern truck.

Back to the OP's post, I do not understand the sales increase for the NISSAN Frontier? Most outdated truck out there is 46%/64% increase in sales?

No idea,

But the numbers show Ford and Ram are missing out by nit offering a small truck. The Dakota might have been done in by being too close to a full size. This new rampage thing I keep seeing around isn't, IMO, the answer.

Give people a body on frame 4x4 with a pentastar/8spd combo or ED with decent styling and people will buy it. Imagine 30mpg, not the Cash4acres way (50mph).

Ram also is missing out on a full size SUV. Those damn Suburban and Tahoe are EVERYWHERE.

Chevy is knocking it out of the park with the colorado/canyon.

This. I'd buy my wife a Ridgeline.

You'd be sorry when you start to feed it fuel.My SIL and his BIL both work at the Civic plant here in Canada. The BIL had an 02 F150 4x4 QC and he figured he'd lease a Ridgeline(they get great lease deals).Anyway he nearly **** himself when he found out how bad the mileage was compared to his 4.6 V8 in the Ford.

I always get kick out of Ford saying they're the best selling truck ever.If it wasn't for the Chev and the GMC trucks being shown as two different trucks GM would have blown Ford out of the water just about every year. After all they are the same truck other than appearance packages and built by the same manufacturer.

I wonder if the success of Ram as its own brand has caused GM to think of splitting off trucks into one singular brand. GMC is General Motors Truck Company after all. If it were me I'd leave the styling and name siverado for the 1500, then go Sierra for the 2500+.

GMC light truck brand serves a purpose that had more relevance in years past but still serves a purpose today. That purpose is to allow non Chevy branded dealerships to have the ability to sell trucks.

When Grandma is buying a Buick, they can sell Grandpa a GMC at the same physical dealership rather than loose business down the road to the Chevy dealership for both vehicles.
