I just went to the RAM dealer service department to have my radio check out. The navigation system shows me out in the Atlantic Ocean!!! Unfortunately they told me the radio needs to be replaced!!! I was charged a Hazardous Waste Disposal fee along with a shop supplies fee for a total of $ 24.56. For checking the radio what hazardous wastes are involved? And what shop supplies were used up to check the radio? It doesn't seem right to have to pay these fees for something that was not used on my truck!!!! What do you think about this?

Hazardous waste I couldn't guess.. but for shop supplies I could see covid-19 PPE (gloves, mask, glasses maybe), floor liner for muddy boots and possibly a chair cover.. dont know if that would be worth $24 though

Edit: even if the mechanic has been using the same PPE since june 2020, I could see the dealer charging customers a PPE fee for new equipment for every customer/vehicle

I'd bet plenty of donuts that soon you will start seeing fuel surcharges again, it is what it is. All electronics carry a fee here to dump, but obviously it only works when they can charge you, most of the time someone will just dump it. The more you are self sufficient, the more they can't take from you, learn how to dyi or pay the fee.

The only hazardous waste fee I can think of would come if they actually replaced the radio. This would be because of the LCD screen.

All tickets are charged the shop supplies and hazardous fess. It is a percentage of the total bill. Most service centers will wave the fee if you ask them. Shop supplies are like gloves, wiper fluid, cleaner (carb and brake), shop rags, steering wheel cover, floor cover, seat cover you get the picture.

kind of like carrying in a set of bare wheels to have tires mounted on and they charge a tire disposal fee....like you did not dispose of my tires...just a money maker.

If you are buying the tires from them, the disposal fee is attached to the new tires regardless of whether or not you are disposing of any. They even charge this on a new vehicle when you register with the state (at least in Oklahoma). I ran a tire & lube center for many years and we had to explain this many times.
