Posted and got great help last time :) due to that i did not purchase the 99 ram i was intending to ($4500 in tranny was not an option on a truck that the dealer wanted $4000 for) SO...., i am looking at a 2001 Ram with the v10

it has 3.55 gearing in the rear and the NV241 4 speed auto trans

was curious as to what you guys think on how hard/ any benefits if it is a D70 rear end ( from what i know they usually are) how hard would it be to find and bolt up a D80 Srw?

unfortunately, from these pics i can not tell and have not had the chance to crawl under it to look and see what is stamped on the rear end

D80 would be bolt-on, but just out of curiosity why? D70 is plenty strong and has more aftermarket than the D80. The V10 is a very strong motor just is very thirsty.

Unless you plan on hot rodding or seriously off roading it, there really isn't a benefit of upgrading to a D80. Especially since almost all D80s had 4.10 gears in them and you'd them have to change the gears up front to match that.

Dana 80s were available on manual transmission diesels. And even with the D70, it's still super-strong. lol
