Hey guys..I just joined the forum today after buying a 2011 dodge Laramie with a 5.7 Hemi..I'm still having buyers remorse since I traded in my 2006 ford f-150 Lariat,a truck that never let me down but was pushing 160000 miles and was developing a little cam phaser tick. I bought the Laramie due to the fact it had all the options I had in the ford....and I've never really heard anything bad about the 5.7 hemi.. But I'm starting from scratch with it and have to do all the things to it that I did with the ford.. but I'm at a loss being more of a ford guy...last dodge I had was a 2000 Durango so that was a while ago.. I'm looking for info on the Radio..its touch screen with nav, sirius, dvd and a hard drive...but no back up camera..I put a back up camera in my ford and want to do the same with the dodge....do these radios have inputs in the rear for a camera ?...and can you over ride it to play dvd's while moving (not for my viewing) In fact while I'm on the radio what inputs if any are there..I have a harness for a I-pod I'm taking out of the ford...will it work on the dodge... Thanks in advance for any input...ALSO..I had a edge gryphon tuner in the ford that I took out and plan to sell or trade...do they make a tuner for the dodge that accepts different tunes for performance...Any advice on this truck would be greatly appreciated.

Great looking truck! I would have to guess there is no camera input otherwise it would have been used. I doubt there are any usable inputs back there. I think the Ipod won't be an issue. I see a USB input and a 3.5mm aux in on the pics. Either of those should work, I don't know what kind of control you will have over the ipod or what info will be displayed on the screen. A sure solution to your radio concerns would be an aftermarket dvd/nav unit which would also have a rear camera input. You can disable the safety feature to play a DVD while the ebrake is not set. It would probably cost around $1k to do it properly (Headunit, wiring harnesses, labor, etc), maybe more.

Maybe there is a rear view mirror camera out there?

As for tuners, check out some of the site sponsors. I hear Moe's is very helpful.

just my opinion. Hopefully someone out there can shed some light.

Hey welcome to the site, as for your questions I am not sure about the back up camera but I know they aren't to difficult to add once you get a device called a lockpick as you will also be utilizing this to watch DVD's while in drive. The IPOD I believe there is a plug in the glove box that you specifically utilize for that as I have an RBZ with same button layout and HHD and I can't control my Ipod from the front USB receptacle. Hope this helps.

Welcome! Yes there are kits to install an OEM backup cam in these trucks. The Mopar kits have detailed instructions. They are usually a hundred or two. then you will need to get the sales code flashed at the dealer. Im not sure about the ipod with a 2012 but mine worked with my 2013. And i bet metra makes a kit to override the video playback

If you are wanting an after market rear camera I have a 2014 I got the rear camera tailgate handle camera from emerald integrations and put a snap over original factory mirror from quality mobile electronics that has 2 video inputs boyo vtm600m. I love this thing easy to install basic wiring skills required and a lot of electrical tape, zip ties, and plastic wire loom. The video is great most of the time when it is sunny just drop you mirror down to stop the glare. When you are not using the camera it is a huge ads mirror 6" x 10" I think. Whatever camera you get make sure it is a ccd anything else is crappy video line and scrolling on the screen. Just hope this helps somebody selecting a rear view camera for the truck and not having to get it flashed by the dealership takes about half of a day to install the entire system I did mine myself.

Hey guys thanks for the replies... I haven't even took delivery of the truck yet..they need to put on the running boards and get me a new chrome rim...and in talking to them today I mentioned the original on line dealer picture showed it WITH running boards..had non when I looked at it..they said they were removed due to rust..i told him it was borderline bait and switch..so he's throwing in window vents and a bug guard...meanwhile I'm looking all over to figure out how to get the dvd to play while driving and hook up a rear camera..(not to mention I'm looking for a cap) I'd like to get the camera built into the rear tailgate handle. It appears to do all this you need a lockpick....anyone have a line on the best deal on one...I see them for 250.00 on e-bay..but not sure on buying one on e-bay...are there any inside lines you guys could pass along on any deals....since I'm just now buying the truck I'm kinda on a tight budget...thanks

the lockpick will allow you to add the back up camera along with being able to watch video while in drive. its a bit on the pricy side somewhere to the tune of $400 if i remember correctly but last i heard they were working on getting them to have RCa outputs also so you can even add an amplifier to the stock headunit without an LOC

I've seen the lockpick a lot cheaper than 400...closer to 250-260... but I'm not sure I'm looking at the right ones if your saying they run 400..Heres one at Sonix...I've delt with them before.. is this the one your speaking of? LockPick MYGIG V5 My-Gig Factory Nav/Video Bypass Override Kit

yes accept i was looking at it for a 2012 ford expedition, which is still $400 wow i havent looked into them for awhile didnt know they made it to sonicelectronix now even.

Your lockpick will be cheaper because the radio is older. I think that truck looks great! No need to be remorseful. If you are looking for integrations for your radio go to OEM Auto Parts Co. They sell everything you need to maximize the features for that radio. Before you buy anything though, run it by the forum because some of their items are overpriced and can be easily DIY'd...

Thanks...My ford I had didn't have a flat screen..2006 Lariat..so I put in a nice pioneer avic..it had the bluethooth, dvd, back up camera, turn by turn nav etc...but being a pioneer all you need to do was ground a wire on the back of it and you could do anything while driving...not me personally but the wife gets bored easy on trip and likes watching movies. I was hoping there was a hack like this for the factory radio...I'm surprised some younger geek hasn't found a way around it... Of course a dodge ram isn't a vehicle for geeks...a smart car is :)
