Hello, new to this forum.

I have a 2011 crew cab, 5.7 liter hemi. It has started to have an intermittent starting problem that the dealership won't touch because it never happens while there. Honestly I don't think they are looking at it. Although for some reason they have told me that the issue doesn't set any code. Apparently the "regional" guy said so !!!???

When you turn the key, some times there is a click with no crank, sometimes no click at all.

Thanks.

Do you by chance have an aftermarket alarm?

Well the ignition is all eltronical, if there is a wiring issue etc, then they should check it out. When my alarm was installed the guy forgot too hook up those specific wires, so truck could start with the remote but not through ignition. Could be something similar where there is a ground loose enough to have contact but miss other times.

I've suggested that but it doesn't seem to register with them. They hook up computers and look for codes. Apparently, no codes, no fix.

In the plans, my selling dealership gets one more shot tomorrow. I've already talked to the service manager at the next nearest one. Although in reading this and other forums there is already a standard excuse across the Chrysler organization, for this issue.

Ya, I agree if the so called mechanics dont find a code they usually have no clue. Just my experience with todays modern mechanics at the dealers in my area. Also most dont really care if they do a good job or not . Todays mentality of no pride in their work.

Yes I can see them now playing away with their smartphones. Checking on their Facebook accounts. Why no there's nothing wrng with this truck!! I see it all the time in " modern" employees at the company where I work!

I had a similar issue with my 2012 hemi and I took it to the shop. I said I thought it may be a WCM/WIN module issue and they said they would check it out. I picked it up later that day and haven't had any issues since. They didn't tell me what they did or if it tripped any codes... but no more starting issues.

My main problem seems to be getting my dealership interested in even looking at the issue.

What is a WCM/WIM module?

Sometimes my truck won't start. It's because the gear shifter isn't fully in park.
Might be worth checking.

Maybe its something along the lines gofish101 said.

Issues like these can be hard to find. A few years ago the tail light was broken out of my wifes 2007 GMC Acadia. I bought a replacement and installed it in February. The problem did not occur until late July/ Aug. It turns out the taillight was one that was recalled. The rear light was an LED, and when the board gets hot it causes it to not stabilize the voltage need to show the system that the light is working. So it thinks there is a dead bulb b/c the LED draw so little power. GM then tell me since I bought the light via ebay its my problem. The light is $275, so for $3 I splice a small light inside the rear quarter panel and it works fine now.

So try to pay close attention to every thing that is happening when the problem happens. And I mean everything is a system on or off, what is the temp outside, does it do it once you have drove the car or first thing in the morning, etc.
Good luck!

I don't have remote start, so I don't think it's the module mentioned. Temperature or time of day do not seem to matter. I haven't bothered noticing if the radio is in or off when this happens. No other systems other than that. It's an ST with only Sirius radio and hemi.

Oh did I mention I also don't have a selling dealership that cares about the problem. My issue I guess.

Like stated these are tough problems to find and with it being on warranty and the tech getting paid almost nothing for diagnosis its hard to get them interested in the job. I have been lucky with having friends that work in the dealerships I like to go to but unless you find a really really curious tech or a shop that pays a hellva hourly rate you might be SOL.

It actually happened for the mechanics today while at the dealership, and I just talked to the mechanic that worked on it. It was a shift linkage issue. He thinks they have the shift linkage adjusted properly now. He said that if it stops starting again to use the neutral position to start and bring it back, they will try again.

Oh we'll . . . It failed to start again tonight. I put it in neutral and it started right up.
