Gentlemen (and I'm sure Ladies)
Please help an ignorant redneck. I have a 2008 1500 Mega Cab with the 5.7.
Starting two days ago as I was walking up to my truck (it was not running) I heard an electronic noise of something clicking. It did it once or twice and then stopped. I thought it may have something to do with the power door locks. The next day as I was driving, the 'service 4wd' light popped on for a second and then disappeared. Then my 4wd light came on for a second and then disappeared. It dawned on me that the noise I heard when the truck was off was the transfer case engaging into 4wd and then back out of it. It happened again today (luckily while I was turning out of my driveway) into 4 lo. I think there has got to be a short somewhere and occasionally it arcs or something to quickly engage and then disengage the 4wd. I disconnected the actuator pigtail today to hopefully prevent my truck (who may now go by the name Christine) from going into 4wd Lo while doing 80 down the highway. I did some searching and couldn't find anything. How could the transfer case go in and out of 4wd when the truck is off?
Thanks in advance!
