I noticed some oil under my truck so I climbed under and I found some oil dripping from around where the transmission and engine meet right behind my oil pan and drain plug. My best guess is it is leaking from my rear main seal. Do you guys think thats right or could it be something else?

It could always be something else but safe money is on rear main. How many miles are on your truck? You could try running high mileage oil As there are additives that are suppose to make seals swell some and hopefully slow your leak down or seal it up completely.

As others have said, its most likely the rear main seal. Look on top of the bell housing if you can see it. If oil is there its possible its leaking from he lifter galley. Not even sure this is still possible, I'm used to working on much older stuff...

Is it definitely oil or is it trans fluid? I had a trans leak that looked very similar to this and it turned out to be the pump seal behind the torque converter...

My trans fluid isn't getting lower but my oil is that's what is leading me to believe it's a rear main leak.

Yeah my trans fluid wasn't getting lower either but if your oil is then I'd say you're right....

My truck is sweatin' horsepower to. I noticed that today, I'll have to crawl under and see if this is the same issue as mine. Otherwise there might be a new post soon!

Just wondering, what kind of mileage you have on it and what oil and oil change interval have you been doing?

I have just under 85,000 miles on the truck. I have been using Amsoil signature series oil as well as Amsoil filters and I change it about every 10,000 miles.

Are the 4.7s prone to rear main seal leaks? Thought I read that somewhere....

Does not get much better than that. Can cross "neglect" off the list.
