Hey yall,

Okay so I have an odd issue. My check engine light is on. It came on a month ago and I replaced the O2 filter and had it reset at autozone. Then, it came on again. Now, when I slow down my truck makes an odd almost like grinding noise from the engine. Itll do it particularly from 10-0 mph. I have absolutely no idea what it could be. Its not brakes (obviously) and the guy at autozone said it COULD be a vacuum thing. He gave me some Sea Foam to put in the fuel system. I havent done it yet but was just curious if anyone else has had this problem? I dont know how serious this is and I go back home from college next week. So, I need to find out if I should be driving this for a long distance.

So it was throwing the code for the o2 sensor?

Is the CEL still on?

Okay, lets try to walk through this and please fill in any blank spots.

Your truck threw a cel (check engine light) so you took it to autozone to get checked and cleared. They said it was for either the front or rear O2 sensor or the catalytic converter. You replaced the correct O2 sensor that they said was bad and after that the truck still threw the same cel for the O2 sensor and also started making the noise while stopping. The noise was NOT there prior to you replacing the O2 sensor.

Is this correct?

All of that is pretty spot on except the last bit. It was an o2 sensor, I replaced it. The noise wasnt there until later on, about a week then the light popped back on. It didnt throw the same cel, it was a different one. I cant quite remember. But that noise is pretty prevalent. Dont know if this is related, but it also makes somewhat of a squeaky noise when I just let it coast and Im next to a building or something that the noise can bounce off close enough to hear. Its real light, but just something I thought I'd add.
Let me know what you think.

So it only happenes when you hit the brakes?
Is it when you hit the brakes really hard? Or just whenever you hit the brakes?

It seems to only be when I hit the brakes. I guess it COULD be the breaks.. but it doesnt explain the CEL or when its at about 5 mph itll pretty much stop then fall to 0 instead of being a constant drop on the speedometer.
The CEL turned off today after driving, it was flooding here maybe something happened but Im not sure why that would trigger it to turn off.

Ill go back to autozone and see what code comes up for yall too.

Just do the key trick. Put it in the ignition turn it on (not starting) / off/on/off/on and a code should pop up where the odometer reading is.

CN you be more specific of where the noise is, if its the engine, your rpm will slightly change, and if its localized with the suspension. Components at that low speed, I can say rotors maybe

Oh and some codes can't just be reset, the computer has to. Go threw a few drive cycles. To correct it

Light metalic squeak that you can hear while driving but is not the brakes = Wheel Bearing

Slight grind before you come to a stop and is also not your brakes = Torque Converter

Just my 2 cents

It COULD be the breaks, but that doesnt explain the CEL. hmm, maybe the code did just reset and its the rotors or breaks. Ill have to check it out.

I'll do the "key turn" trick. Not really sure what I'm looking for, but ill see what comes up. Since the CEL turned off then I guess it probably won't show.

If its the bearings, should I just oil them up?

they are sealed, and are replaced as a hub, to check them lift the tire and grabe at 12 and 6oclock and see if there is play, while your there grabe ar 9 and 3 too to check tire rod ends
