Hey everybody, I’ve got a 2003 Dodge 2500 5.9 diesel. 310,000 miles and when I go over bumps I hear all sorts of clanking. The steering is also a bit sloppy. I did the upper and lower ball joints at 200,000 and those seem to be in pretty good shape. I remember paying extra for some sort of serviceable type of ball joint from one of the off-road shops. When I had my son move the steering wheel back-and-forth I could see some slop where the drag link attaches to the Pitman arm. The stabilizer shock, the one that sits horizontal to the ground, looks also shot.
I am looking to replace front suspension parts but I’m confused if the Pitman arm should be replaced at the same time as the drag link? I’m not familiar if they both wear evenly on each piece or if just the drag link wears out.
The next question would be if I should order one of these kits that has all these long big pieces or just go with some of the small pieces like the Pitman arm and drag link first. Any advice would be appreciated on what maintenance you would do on the suspension with this kind of higher mileage. Assuming that the ball joints are OK.
