Picked up the infamous tick at 31k. Thought MAYBE it could be oil as I recently had the oil filter replaced. Nope. So I was 90% certain it was an exhaust leak and called the service department and told him I was pretty sure I had a broken exhaust bolt. "You have a ticking sound in the morning, eh?" Long story short, broken bolt, bad gasket, and warped manifold. All replaced today and covered by extended warranty.

What did your extended warranty cost? Did you finance the extended warranty?

Does anyone have an estimated cost of the fixing the tick if you don't have the warranty?

File this one under fake news. Definitely not Hemi Tick. Haha... but still glad to hear someone was treated fairly and were taken care of by a dealership.

The infamous “Hemi Tick” is almost always a leaking manifold. Very rarely is it actual ticking from lifters. Other posts are clear on this.

So, you had the OEM parts fail. You replaced everything with the same OEM parts. Hope you don't expect different results.

Financing an extended warranty is an extremely bad idea. Take that money and invest it. Or take that money and pay off your truck earlier.

Dealer quoted me $3900 for fixing the BAD hemi tick (cam + affected lifter) and $80 to replace broken bolts (not sure how many) which is the common Hemi tick. So, the $80 was negligible cause they were already tearing down a significant portion of the truck and is probably just inflated parts price +maybe 1 hour of labor?

So, if you have manifold bolt issue, probably try and DIY that cause most likely gonna be more than 80 if you have someone fix it that isnt already digging in.

No... no, it's not. If you have leaking manifolds, it's called "leaking manifolds". The Hemi Tick is it's own thing. If someone refers to a manifold issue as the "Hemi Tick", they have misdiagnosed the problem by a country mile.

Absolutely! Hemi tick is startup valvetrain noise and has never been anything else in my limited time as a RAM owner. I was introduced to it on the first crank of my previous RAM the first time I ever sat in it three years ago. Its a sound like no other and sounded way worse than any leaking exhaust manifold that I ever heard. Of course when I asked the salesman WTF was that I got the usual BS that it had been sitting for a long time and that it happened occasionally but it was nothing to worry about. I wanted to dump my POS GM product so bad I really didn't care at the time.

Just wanted to offer Kudos to David at Tempe Ram here in the Phoenix area for the great service I received from them for my 3 driver side broken manifold studs. I was amazed they had me done the same day. Only issue I have with the service is that they
didn't replace or plane the manifold, just extracted\replaced the bolts and manifold gasket, so it WILL happen again.....

Yeah a lot of guys are moving over to headers with this, even here in CA they have allowed CARB headers we can use.

Rampant makes a great point. Manifold exhaust leak is a screeching hiss noise. Valve train noise is clearly different metal tick. This is not to split hairs, but important when dealing with the dealer under warranty. Some dealers tell us the noise we are hearing is a hemi tick and is normal and customary. Exhaust leak is not a hemi tick.

Rams aren't the only one with this issue. A newer f150 come up beside me on the freeway and deffinately had an exhaust manifold leak.
