So the truck has had 2 oil changes in its entire life so far. The first time almost exactly to the milage of needing another I noticed oil spots on my garage floor. Heading to the dealer anyway for the next oil change I mentioned the oil spot and they said it was coming from the filter. Never really gave me a reason as to why but figured eh they just put a new filter on, maybe it was a faulty filter. Well here I am again about a month after the oil change and its leaking again. Hate to think its dealer error. They are a very reputable dealer in the area. So here I sit, playing the waiting game.

They have cameras in all their bays so I am watching them on the monitor drain all the oil…..

Well that was quick. Verdict…Warped seals on the filter. Twice? I don't know bout that. Guess we will see how the 3rd filter holds up.

That's weird. Almost makes me think they're putting them on too tight.

That is weird it happened twice. Sounds like they over tightened the filter. If it happens again I would take it somewhere else And see if it happens again

The part about it taking a month before leaking is the weird part. I wonder if there might have been a bad batch of filters? Maybe bad gaskets or something.

If it does it again, I would try changing the oil yourself and use a premium filter like Mobil 1 or K&N.

its funny that you say that because thats what I was thinking. When they got me from the waiting area he said he had them make sure it was nice and tight. All i could think was oh great now its going to be over tightened. we will see. I guess time will tell.

Warped seals huh? No bueno. Alot of times when you remove the old filter, the seal will stay stuck to the oil filter mount. Then when they put the new filter on, the seal doubles and can cause a slow leak. Not sure if that's what happened, just gee wiz info.

either warped mounting surface on the engine block or a bad oil filter.

I'd guess they're putting them on dry. Definitely keep an eye for continued leaking, though.

this happened to me also. I do my own oil changes. Mine was wet and dripped. I tightend it and no luck. I had to replace the filter with new and the problem went away. I did notice that the gasket on the leaking one came right out of where it sits on the filter. I'm just thinking it was just bad rubber gasket on the filter.

It happens. I had that issue years ago on my car too.

^^^ Yep, you're right there... it happens. I changed the oil in my '97 before a trip around the U.S. (total around 4K miles) and in my preoccupied thoughts about the drive forgot to lube the gasket. I ended up adding a quart every fuel stop and upon arrival home found a thick coating of oil on my tailgate.

mine was lubed it didn't matter. I also make sure the mating surface where the filter sits is clean too. It just was a crap filter.

I'd OCD like crazy about changing all that. The filter mount gets cleaned with carb cleaner and a tack rag. I prefill my filters and lube the gasket, not once, but twice.

I've also never had an issue with my Wix Gold / Mobil 1 Filters.

My 2012 express had a leaky oil filter after its first oil change. The dealer corrected it and cleaned up the mess.

I always prefill the filter. Don't want a dry start.

Any update on this issue from those of you that have attempted to correct the problem of recurring oil leaks (allegedly from the filter) on 2013 Ram 1500 HEMI)? Any suggestions would be appreciated as I'm now returning to the dealership for the 4th time in 3000 miles to have the oil leak fixed. It did not appear until after my first oil change (at 3000 miles), and now I've got just over 6000 miles, two oil changes, and soon to be four visits to the dealership for this same problem. Thanks!

Here you go.... I had this issue too on my 13.

You probably already read that one but this solved my problem.
As per my posts, they replaced the threaded filter tube and i have not had any issues since.
Yes, it did take me 2 changes and two trips in to the dealer for them to believe me.
