Kinda depends on how you use your truck, commuter or work horse. Where you drive hills or flat.

If it were me.. When I see these temps I would idle down and cool off.

Engine oil 250f
Transmission oil for 8 speed 230f, rfe 190f
Water/Coolant 220f

I think Burla's numbes are right on.

I believe you'll find some threads here where folks have chatted with ZF and they say the danger zone for the ZF8's is 240F. It's not eminent death at 240F, it's just the point where the ATF starts to rapidly degrade.

I've hit as high as 220 coolant and 208 trans towing 7,000 lbs, and being in a field, so BURLA pretty close on the numbers. If I did a lot of towing, I would pull the Tsat and put in a lower one, relocate oil filter, maybe with dual setup, and pull the thermo transtadt and put in blocking plate. But since just a lil-modified GG truck, that tows infrequently, guess I'll live with the OEM 203.

I have a 2016 RAM with 5.7liter. When towing in warm weather (85 degrees) I see my oil temperature rising above 260 deg F. I run synthetic oil and just can't seem to keep the temp down. I am considering placing a passive external oil cooler in that Derale makes (see attached photo). Does anyone have any expereince with this oil cooler or any comments on reducing the oil temperature, or is this even normal? The normal oil temperature is around 225 deg F, when not towing.

With temps like that I too would be putting a oil cooler in asap, I'm surprised it didn't come with one, my MIL 2013 has one. I'm surprised how many have said they have high oil temps above 255, I wonder what that high oil temp does to non synthetic oil so many use in their Hemi....
