Today …. 287,000 Km and climbing weekly
Oil changes at 5,000-6,000 km. Pennzoil 5w40 euro summer. Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 winter.
Spark plug changes (16x!) every 30-40k with NGK plain vpower plugs.
Coolant changed every 3-4 years
Burns no oil until the 6k mark
No other “internal” related work.
No hemi-tick other than when the exhaust manifold bolts were broken.
Tows 4K to 8k trailers weekly, airbags added

Engine super smooth, strong cold starts, lots of power.

Truck has been good. Periodic maintenance such as brakes, shocks, tires, cvs, ball joints, ujoints.

Transmission is seeming a little sluggish lately. Oil and filter were done at 220k

Last year or so Rust is taking the cab corners, the box, and the rockers. Monthly Coats of Fluid Film has really slowed it down a lot

I bought my 2013 outdoorsman in 2016 with 85k miles on it.
At 98k miles lifters failed. Dealer warranteed repair despite engine being very poorly maintained sent me pics, all gunked up. He was an aquaintance and said he could have denied warranty based on condition of motor.

Since that repair. I put in another 237k miles before cam was worn beyond use.
It cost me $9k to replace motor with new motor.
Truck runs like new.
Also have 339k miles on original 65rfe transmission, I did change tranny fluid a couple times , but now my granny guys say don't touch it. Too many miles. He is worried that even draining and filling qith new fluid will cause transmission. To slip. I know eventually I will need new transmission. Wish it was an easy swap from 6 to 8 speed. But I am ok with the 6spd with 3.92 gears.

I have a 2011 Long Horn since new and I just past 400,000 kms. No engine work. Just plugs and regular maintenance. Would like to discuss more with other owners to prolong the life of their truck as well and share my maintenance and issues I have had. This truck has treated me well! 3341.jpg

Here's a list of repairs I have done on my 2011 Longhorn with 400,000kms (248,000 miles)

Water pump with thermostat
Alternator
Mopar irridium plugs x2 (@180k kms + 360k kms)
Tranny fluid every 100k kms
Front and rear diff and transfer case every 150k kms
Oil change every 6000-8000 miles
Ball joints/tie rods/links/shocks - have all been replaced once
Antifreeze- flushed out once @ 180k kms and just replaced.after 350k kms.
Front and rear brakes- replaced pads at least 4 times in front and once on the rear.

Exhaust leak( did not repair- had it since 120k kms)

I have gotten nothing major done on engine.

Anyone else with other thoughts on maintenance and what has broken down on your Ram?

See if i can remember things.

Water pump under warranty @ 12,000-15,000. Got all new coolant at that time.

12,000 35” tires installed and shortly after 4.88 gears installed.

25,000 driveshaft U-jount replaced as process of elimination finding an odd noise.( did kit fix it)

26,000 I removed the thermostatic bypass on the transmission fluid line. Installed a block heater and a heated battery blanket.

32,000 the key ignition switch stopped working. (Major PITA for what it is)

50,000-60,000 new spark plugs (coppers as a test)

Serpentine belt was also around 50,000-60,000

Thermostat got stuck open at around 70,000 so it got that and the new coolant again.

81,000 new Bosch iridium OEM spark plugs

87,000 Front wheel bearings + all new rotors, calipers and pads @ around

90,000 or so i got my heater core replaced. My hear stopped working and i went 3 winters with no heat.. :hidesbehindsofa:

2+quart trans pan installed somewhere around 20,000 miles maybe. + i use a RP spin on filter (i remove the paint) in the trans instead of the garbage cellulose OEM spin on.

As for basic maintenance/fluid changes…. If anyone knows me they know about my extremely premature fluid changes for everything. To the point that it is a bit embarrassing……

Numbers are not exact but close enough.

Trans gets new fluid every 20,000 and new filters every 40,000….. MAX. Iv done it in less miles.

Break fluid gets flushed with new about every 20,000

Power steering fluid gets the reservoir emptied and replaced with fresh fluid every 20,000

Diff oil front and rear every 30,000 or so.

Transfer case fluid every 30,000 or so.

Engine oil every 5,000
