so after getting the truck back after 56 days without it, i've put a few miles back on it. it had a vibration at highway speeds before it went in. Nothing major but noticeable. I changed the tries and while it was worst before the tire change it still has it after the swap.

Truck has 58k miles and i do a good amount of towing. How would you guys approach correcting this vibration? Its not noticeable in the steering wheel. Could it be bushing related? I haven't replaced any wear items so far.

Thanks guys

Peter

since my last new set of truck tires, i do road force right from the get go. also i stand there there while all the balancing operations are happening. i want to see for my self that its getting done proper. the vibration could easily be your tires

I agree it could be, but seeing as it was there before this new set i think it might be a wear item. Do you agree? Also my old set was road forced

Aftermarket wheels and the factory stud clips? Oh wait, the Ram PW doesn't have rear drum brakes. Tire Rack mentions rotors though in the link below and so I posted this. I can't recall seeing stud clips on my PW studs.

If wheel spacers were used and were dented upon installation a vibration could occur.

Also, the older model Ram rotors could be warped with over tightening via an impact wrench, but vibration would probably be felt when brakes are applied. Normally though they aren't warped, but just the brake pads grabbing on spots. Anyway, torque to 135 ft lbs by hand, not to 500 ft lbs with an impact. Vibration could occur without the brakes applied per the 2nd link below. Has happened on other FCA vehicles and so I mentioned this.

Excluding proceeding to the driveshaft, suspension, etc. as the probable cause, the stock brake rotors could be out of balance.

I do have stock rotors on the truck. The vibration isn't coming from the front though or through the steering wheel. It feels like its in the rear end

my vibration was greatly reduced when the OEM Roving TEch placd some micro weights on the driveshaft.
New Michelins took out most of the remaining vibration. Hardly notiveable to anyoen but me.

What other wear items would you suggest looking at? 58k miles on the truck again
I have the same mileage on my 2016. Right at 58,*** miles. No issues though. I am not a professional mechanic. Need others to input.

I have on much higher mileage 4x4 pickups replaced upper and lower ball joints, pitman and idler arms, upper and lower control arm bushings, axles, driveshafts, entire differential assemblies, wheel bearings, etc. I jack the truck up, put the frame on jack stands, crawl underneath and start pulling, prying, turning, and pushing to find what's loose or worn.

Is it a tire speed or driveshaft speed vibration? What speed does it start and does it stop with higher speed? Have you put it on jackstands and run it in gear to look for wheel, axle or driveshaft run out? It you try it, you will likely need to pull the ABS/ Traction control pump fuse.

My father as a white 2018 Power Wagon with around 12 000 km .
It seems to do the same kind of vibration.

Therefore, the problem is the white paint.

Kidding aside, his truck is bone stock. Did the same thing with original tires and 35'' ( which he did switch between his jeep and ram. No vibration on the jeep )
He thinks that it's a wind turbulence under the truck. It only vibrate on certain conditions ( speed, wind, etc. )
It vibrate on one way of the highway but not the other. It does not vibrate while towing.

I read a forum that the culprit might be the steering damper. They said to replace with a bilstein. I cannot find that post back at all :33:

Let me know if this helps

I would look at the thuren website before I'd swap the steering damper. It has a list of the good and bad products. Some look like they'd be good but are junk.

I too have vibration right around 70mph. First time I took it in the dealer rotated and road force balanced. This was on a Saturday. On Monday they called for a follow up. I told the service writer that the vibration was still present. Took it back in again and dropped it off 8am on a Saturday. Service calls me around 1..2pm claims that one tire was out of round and recommended replacement. So I said to replace the one factory Goodyear. They reduced the time and materials charge and I was out the door around $230. Problem still persists.

My gut is telling me it's the driveshaft.

I had my tires rebalanced at another place and one wheel is taking a significant amount of weight to get it into balance. The vibration is gone for now but it took a good amount of weights on one wheel and a whole lot of time to figure it out. Wondering if i should look into getting a new set of wheels?

Again i haven't replaced any wear items yet so i might fo that before i buy the wheels seeing how they are balanced now. Thoughts?

Mark the wheel inside with a dab of paint. It's fixed. Drive it. Forget it.

I started a thread back in may when I got my pw. I didn't drive the truck before I bought it and when I got on the highway I could feel a vibration in the steering wheel. went back to the dealership a couple days later and drove the other pw they had on the lot. no vibes. they tried rebalancing my tires and it only made it worse. so they did a swap on the rims and tires with the other pw and problem solved. they said they get bad tires every once and a while and a bad rim from time to time. they didn't know which it was, so it was easier just to swap out for the good set.

I can't see one of your wheels just going bad unless it was damaged during the tire swap. And you didn't have your vibration before then. I bet its one of the tires. I may ask them to replace the one with all the extra weights on it and see if that fixes the problem.
