HO Cummins, it is taking longer and longer to complete a DPF regeneration

If you’re not towing anything then you should have gone with a gas truck. Would suit your purposes better.

Of course, but it never feels good to be should upon

High idle doesn't help with preventing frequent regens. You're just burning fuel, and it can even be part of the dpf soot accumulation problem that you seem to be having, because the soot is building up in the dpf while the engine is running, but the temps aren't getting hot enough to burn it off. Very likely to be contributing to the problem.

We've talked about it before but you probably need to find a gasser. Unfortunately I just don't think you're using the truck as intended and are beginning to see the consequences of it.

While there is some truth to that, he isn't the one trying to figure out how to solve a self induced problem. Depending on the mileage, that 2019 with the Cummins Dually crew cab, still has good value. I honestly can't see a diesel, let alone a DRW, if you are not towing with it and it appears you don't. You can probably trade straight across for a 6.4 that is 2 to 4 years newer, depending on options.

If you do tow occasionally, then a smaller every day driver would make sense to me, and it would keep your pickup in way better overall condition.

Agreed. Thank you.

I need to clean/ cherry it up

What time of year might be a good time to sell it?

It was my big eyes and my 2nd adolescence that is to blame for my obtaining the truck

End of the year is always a good time, but now is good too as dealerships are getting MY26 trucks on the lot. You could get good pricing on leftover 2025s.

Thank you. It'll be just me and my cat from AZ to UT for trout fly fishing. Maybe a fuel efficient car and small trailer.

Modern diesels are just bad at small trips, it literally kills them. Writing is on the wall w/o the full blown symptoms that require a disclosure upon selling. Best time to sell is now, especially since you are looking at a car. Hopefully the next guy knows what to do, if not that is on him.

You could be cool and suggest cetane boost and a long trip is healthy for dpf, just pass knowledge and is generally fact for any diesel anyway, but I wouldn't go researching anything at this point. Ignorance is bliss and time to move on. The sad truth is buying a 20 year old diesel is less Risky then buying a 5 year old diesel.

By the way, did you do the cp4 pump recall? That is a selling point if you did, if you didn't do it, I would do two things sell it ASAP and forget this sentence :)

Ya dont need to drive 70-80 MPH for regens, I can get 20 minute regens at speeds of steady 50-60 MPH, if you have a small trailer or access to one you can use then I would buy some Archoil 6400D add it to the tank and do a 2 hr one way drive hooked to a trailer then head back home that should help get your DPF clean. BTW power service is okay ( used it for years in my old 5.9 Cummins) for a cetane booter but you need more than that for your system, its why Archoil or HHS every day is recommended in the above posted video by Burla. I use Archoil 6500 in every tank & 6400d every 5-6K so that I don't have the problems your having, after I started using Archoil I can now go 24 hours between auto regens...

And do what then? Turning it off is unlikely to prevent it from happening again I would imagine. I'm asking because I haven;t any idea what's to be done allowing the diesel to run more than 5 minute....
Sounds like he's running around doing errands and leaving the truck idle with high Ile engaged. It one thing if you trying to warm the truck up in really cold weather but in general any modern diesel with full emissions it's better to turn the engine off. If it's not running, it's not adding soot to the dpf which can extend Regen times.

I guess I learned that from a Dealership Service Writer. I saw him bump up the idle as it was in line for service and figured it was a good thing to do.

Unless you're trying to get the engine to temp, high idle serves no purpose for your use.

Honestly though... the time to sell is as soon as you find a replacement and before your truck starts showing more symptoms. Unfortunately (and no disrespect meant), you're killing the truck.

Thanks, sir! I take such good advice seriously

Now, to figure out what one kind of lightly used vehicle will serve triple duty as a grocery getter, 200 mile round trips to Phoenix and practical for camping trips to Utah to fly fish. For now, anyways, a house cat will travel with me

Please everybody, help me figure this out. The LHM dealership I bought my truck from is chomping at the bit to buy it back from me. Scratch your head with me.

Get a 1500, even the V6 can pull a light trailer (weight dependent on axle ratio) and it will certainly ride a lot better than an HD truck.

Research e-torque before buying e-torque. If you change your mind and opt for a truck, ask for opinions if you haven't been on the board a lot, there is much to consider. For a car if longevity is a value, maybe consider a 6 cylinder non di turbo SUV, and no cvt transmission even better. Last I looked there were a couple options. Those mid sized SUV market is one of the best remaining vehicles being built these days, many options are still viable for longevity. Sadly most of them are electrical nightmares, no way out of that mess anymore.

Good gas mileage, ability to tow, can go confidently on rougher roads, good for long and shorter trips, find one of the Eco 1/2 ton Diesel pickups or the diesel Jeeps.
