I just got a OBD2 blue tooth adapter and installed Torque Pro app on my phone and was doing some 1/4 mile runs and 0-60mph times and was curious how accurate these would be?

Here's what I have and time:

14 ram
Hemi
Crew cab short bed
4x2
8spd
3.92
Stock tires and 20's

Stock except for diy CAI and a catch can.

1/4 mile - 14.99 @ 93.8mph
0-60mph - 6.2sec

Air temp was 75f.

Does that sound about right?

Running 89 octane and had a 1/4 tank of fuel when I tested.

Traction control was off and tow/haul mode was on.

0-60 in 6.2 secs seems to be a bit quicker than I've seen in the magazine road tests. I think most of the times were closer to 7-7.5 but I'm just going from memory.

Also, real world tests by average guys like you and I (you tube vids, etc.) always seem to be a fair amount slower than the pros get while testing for the magazines.

I think when they test they take several runs at it and it's done under ideal conditions and the pros doing the testing are probably a fair amount better and milking every last fraction of a second out of it.

Over at zeroto60times.com here is what they have (they don't have my exact truck setup):

2013 Ram 1500 Laramie Quad Cab (5.7L V-8) 0-60 mph 6.0 Quarter Mile 14.8
2014 Ram 1500 Mega Crew Cab 4X4 0-60 mph 6.9 Quarter Mile 15.2

Given those numbers I guess I'm right in line perfomance wise....

The biggest factor in accuracy is going to be the quality of your OBDII adapter.

The Chinese, sub $20.00 adapters work, but they poll much more slowly.

I have a very common Chinese ELM adapter and a scantool adapter, the refresh rate is very noticeable between the two.

I have a older ELM and it can be slow if I'm scanning a bunch of parameters, but new shorter ones fail a lot from what I read.

That's the common one I was referring to. It does work well, but if you want all PIDs and instant data, you should look this:

http://www.scantool.net/obdlink-mx.html

Both are solid and great for pulling codes, and clearing them. The basic ELM style is sufficient for 99% of anyone interested.

Yeah, that's the one I have in the picture. Got it about 3 years ago..

That $100 Bluetooth adapter is nice.

I rather go back and look at my data log if something doesn't seem right anyways because I can't look at all those parameters at once while driving.

Wow... vehicles have gotten fast. Post emission/fuel savings era (basically anything after the mid-70s) this type of number was only found with expensive sports cars. I remember in the mid-80s or so when the 5.0 Mustang came out with a 0-60 time in the mid 6's it was the quickest for the money that had been seen for awhile.

How long is it going to be before a minivan is turning times below 6?

The real amazing part is the fuel economy these vehicles can produce (admittedly not while turning out the performance).

Hopefully soon my wife's Honda Odyssey is painfully slow

As soon as they put a hemi in a grand caravan!

Although those pentastars do a pretty good job of motivating caravans these days!
