The only truck I found close to everything I wanted, didn't have the Trailer break controller. As a negotiation item, the dealer committed to install it at their expense.

Later that day, I was told the part was not available until December. Come December, I called the dealer and they told me not available until January 30th.

So far, so good, except the guy told me that the reason it was not available is because they (FCA I assume) didn't know how to "make" the part yet and were working on/developing it.

How is that even possible? The part is available on new trucks it was just not part of the one I found.. I am very confused. Below is the picture of what I am trying to get installed. How do I confirm if I am just being lied to?

I will call another dealer to quote how much would it be to install it. Let's see if I get conflicting info.

I don’t think you are being lied to. Possibly the dealer is mis-informed as to the reason. I too am waiting for some items that were part of the deal I made when purchasing the truck on the “We Owe” sheet.

1. Factory Trailer Brake Controller (Backordered until Jan)
2. OEM Power Steps (Backordered until Feb 19th)
3. OEM Bed Step (On-Hold Pending Engineering Review until Jan 31st)

Well - it seems they were not lying... got the same response from another dealer. They are saying it's in back-order, and they are "updating" the part.

Yet you can get it in a new truck.. Still can't process this in my head.

When I was told that about the Power Steps I also called two other dealers and was told the same thing. I am in Arizona and they said all their parts come out of LA. It’s possible if you are in a different area you might have better luck in distribution.

I also tried to order the Bed Step through several sites online. My first order I placed was cancelled about an hour after I placed it so I called several others and they told me the same story.

When I had my 19 Limited and the screen went out it took 40 days to get a new one through distribution and I assume production wasn’t shut down on vehicles with 12 inch screens. My though is that the production facilities have first access before parts and accessories enter the distribution pipeline.

One more thing...the Bed Step as I understand is pending engineering review because in order to mount it you have to detach a wiring clip harness and there is no where to reattach it. People have just zip tied it or let it dangle. So the best guess is that although the step works they have to come up with a solution to reattach the clip to hold the wires.

It’s possible that there is some reason for the trailer brake controller as well that may not even have to do with the part itself but maybe part of the after the fact install.

I also had the Brake Controller as a negotiation item when we purchased our 2019 ram in October. I was also told this item was on backorder for two months. I contacted Ram Care in early Dec. and they contacted he dealership. What I was told is this:
The Brake Controller kit is on back order, but the parts department was able to make a kit with individual parts ( controller, bracket etc.)
One week after emailing Ram Care I had my brake controller.

Sounds like you are getting info from someone who doesn't know but can't tell you that. It appears to have a part number at the mopar store: Part Number: 82215278AC

https://store.mopar.com/accessories...onic_trailer_brake_controller_82215278AC.html

I did hear that there is (or was) a back-order for e-torque box replacements because FCA hasn't made enough for repairs or replacements yet. Maybe he was saying they don't have inventory built up yet? But you can buy the trailer brake controller online right now so...

This is exactly why I just placed a factory order when I couldn’t find what I want. Adding things afterwards (aside from accessories like tonneau covers and mud flaps) is a PITA. When mine gets here, it’ll have everything exactly as I want it.

I bought mine before Thanksgiving and I'm still waiting for the Mopar Slushmats I ordered when I bought it...
Dealer says they won't even give them an ETA.

Hmmm. I bought mine off the shelf at a local dealer.

it's not like I need the feature now, not planning to towing anything in the next few months, so I will wait a bit more before calling RAM Care.

One has to wonder why a truck being touted for towing capacity and having a class 4 receiver doesn't come with a trailer brake controller as standard equipment. Someone at RAM is stupid or knows nothing about towing or the necessity for trailer brakes that work properly. Truck brakes alone will not handle a trailer plus 5,000 or more pounds on it. There is nothing like the shear terror felt when you realize you are being uncontrollably pushed beyond where you needed to stop and there is nothing you can do about it.

I used to work in the OEM supply world. Production parts (assembly line) comes first!. Also, just because MOPAR releases a part number doesn't mean the part supplier has the part available or in the MOPAR warehouse.

Having parts or features as an "IOU" from a dealer is exactly why I only factory-order my vehicles anymore. I get exactly what I want or I don't buy.

On the other hand, I'm not getting a great price and definitely don't get a lot of horse trading either...
