How much can 2006 Laramie crew cab long bed 5.9 HO really be worth?

So I am the first, very proud owner, of a 2006 2500 Laramie crew cab long bed 4x4 in awesome shape with 131k on it.
I’m thinking I need to get a new Limited 3500 4x4 long box.
I’ve been waiting for Chrysler to grow a brain and put a different tranny with more gears but not sure if I can wait however many years for FCA to grow that brain. I fantasize about a Cummins with an Allison. Even a ZF. I love the Aisin but it needs a couple more gears at least.
So while drooling over the offerings Ram has I went on eBay and saw trucks like mine for $30000! That’s crazy! I know mine is awesome and has the 5.9 that you don’t have to pee in every 400 miles but $30k!
Someone tell me if that’s a dream? Should I expect to list my truck for high $20’s?

That Cummins tax LMAO. If it has less than 300k on it apparently it's worth an internal organ or two....

What does KBB (or similar) say?

I have no idea what they say but I can’t see it being worth that much but when I see them listed they are from mid 20’s to around 31k!
Of course the dealer will tell you 15k. But I spoke with the owner of a used car dealership in Texas who had some listed and a friend who knows everything about Ram and both said the same thing. Upper 20’s to low 30’s.
It’s too hard for me to believe. And I really really want the fully optioned Limited 3500!

Check trade-in and private sale values for your truck @ KBB.com.

Advertised values don't reflect true market values as they are only asking prices.

#1 it is Ebay. #2 those are probably asking prices. KBB is probably the best choice for values. Also, scroll down the left side of the Ebay search results to select completed auctions. That will show the price that was actually paid versus the asking price. You can also try the online car stores like Vroom.com. They have tools to submit pictures of the vehicle and they will give you a price they will actually buy the car from you.

I'm sure you love your truck, as we all do. But consider mileage, actual condition of wear, added features and Curb Appeal. Think really hard if you would pay that much for it? Then there's trying to find someone to give you that much for it! Trade in value, you'll be lucky to get ten or twelve grand.

Advertised price and actual selling price are 2 different things.
With that said a good shape late gen 3 5.9 will fetch a premium. Everyone "thinks" they are so much better then the newer emission equipped 6.7.

As someone who sold his nice 2006 5.9 and got a 2016 6.7, I would never go back to the 5.9. The new 6.7 trucks are better in every way so I don't get way everyone wants the old 5.9? (my opinion of course).

No, I would definitely not pay high 20’s for a 2006 with 131000 miles.
Not just eBay had them listed in the high 20’s. I found a used car dealer in Texas that deals a lot in them and he has a few listed from upper 20’s to lower 30’s! He seams to really know his stuff too. But yes he’s a dealer.
My friend had an ‘05 CTD That he had 370k miles on and blew the engine. It also had a bad tranny. He sold it in 2 weeks for 5k and said he could have got 10k blown!
A vehicle is worth what someone pays for it. The 5.9 HO definitely seems to get more than I would think they would. The dealer would pay 15k for it and they always low ball. When I go to sell it next year I’ll research my ass off like I usually do and sell it then buy my new one.

Put an outrageous price on it.

Say 35k. When the people show up instantly offer it for 33k. When they convince you to sell it at 27k they think they stole it. You got about 13 grand more than it was worth in reality

Same thing with all the new truck buyers. Truck MSRP is 72k. They get it for 65 and are such hard bargain negotiators. They really only wanted 60k for it anyways.

My 2 cents

I do construction and also do things in the desert and mountains that require my truck. I use it. Thankfully I have another car and for the last 2 years had a company truck so I more than halved miles on my truck but now I don’t have a company truck.
Hopefully I won’t put another 20k miles on this one before I sell it and hopefully I get more than 20k for it.
KBB says it worth 12-13k. It’s definitely worth more than that. I’ll find

See. That’s awesome and mine is a Laramie. The short bed will get more money than a long bed. I need my truck and use the thing all the time. Plywood and drywall come in 4x8 sheets. I’ll be getting a long bed!

I looked for about a year and a half. When I found an 05 2500 5.9 quad cab long bed with 272k on it for $10,500 I went down test drove it and bought it right there. Guy was second owner and a cop, had bought it from a friend 7 years ago at 200k. Not showroom perfect, but still a bargain at 10,5. Lots of curb appeal and runs fantastic. Gotta have a long bed.

He’ll yeah! That’s what I’m talking about. Thanks for the encouragement!
