How often are you guys waxing your trucks? And what do you do when you have to go long periods of time without waxing your truck, say for constant snowy weather reasons...

I try my best to keep my truck as clean as possible year round. I spray wax it just about every time I wash it. I hand wax it every 1-1.5 months.

I just picked up my truck Saturday and haven't been able to wax her yet. Now tomorrow my area is expecting up to 8", and Saturday/Sunday is expecting up to the 30"s. With snow comes rock salt and sand, so I wanna get it done ASAP but can't. I have to hope the dealer did a semi-good wax job before I picked her up!

Check out detailing section for some good information.

Wax and sealants are hard to apply and remove when temperatures are below 45°

Wash and hit it with some spray wax or sealant.
A light layer of protection is better than nothing.

In the winter, I just use the spray on stuff that comes out of the car wash. Anything below 40º is a pain to wax. I also make sure to give it a good waxing in the Fall before the cold and snow starts.

After that, I go to the spray and wash car wash to get the salt off whenever the temp gets above 40º

Most waxes will last you about 4-6 weeks before you have to re-wax. A good sealant will last about 6 month. You could use a good sealant sometime in Sept and probably still have some protection left in March--depending on how bad the weather was, how often you wash your truck and whether it sits outside or inside at night. You can also use a spray wax after each wash to help protect your truck until you can put a sealant and/or wax on again. You might look into opti coat as an alternative--see--autogeek--- for more information on products. Adams has a large and vocal following on this site so I am sure you will hear from them--do your research and I'm sure you will find product/s you like--remember everybody thinks they use the best.

A shiny one
For most of the country, this time of year sucks for taking care of your ride, that's for sure!

Giving a definitive answer on how often to wax is tough because there are MANY factors that will determine how long it lasts.

How the water beads/sheets from the surface is an easy indicator of how the protection is holding up. Once the beads start to get larger or the water "sticks" to the paint, that's your sign that it's time for another application.

Another (and better in my opinion) option is to go with a synthetic sealant. They are engineered for maximum longevity, and will outlast a normal wax 4-6X on average. They are ideal of a daily driver and/or a vehicle that sees harsh elements like salt/snow through the winter.

We offer two different sealant options, our Liquid Paint Sealant and Quick Sealant.

The Liquid Sealant gets the nod for longevity and good looks over the Quick Sealant, but you can't beat ease-of-use of the Quick Sealant since it's an aerosol.

Hope that info helps. If you have any other questions, fire away!
