Hello folks,
Lastnight the truck stalled out and thought I’d have to tow to buddies shop to take a look at it, didn’t have to as it started up.
In the event of having to tow, I was looking at putting the truck in neutral and ended up putting in 4WLow.
Here is what I did.......
First, make sure you are in 2 wheel drive position on the transfer case. Next, put your foot on the brake pedal and shift your transmission in Neutral. Rotate the dial all the way clockwise, PAST the 4LO position and HOLD IT THERE for approx. 10 seconds.

Traction light, 4WLow and another yellow car skid mark came on my dash, also the message “ESC system Off” blinks on now. what I done so far.....
1. Disconnect battery overnight-nothing
2. Shift to neutral turn dial to 2wd and then to drive-nothing
3. Drove 1-3mph shift to neutral turn dial to 2wd then to drive- nothing.

I can hear something banging when I shift to reverse which I read is somewhat normal when trying to get out of 4WLow?

absolutely no issues prior to doing the above. I hope it’s something simple to do and I’m just not doing it correctly. Truck moves very slowly as expected when in 4WLow. I read the message (ESC is off) on evic is normal when 4WLow is engaged.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Lyle.

Every 4x4 truck I ever had, you had to put the transmission in neutral first before taking the transfer case out of or into 4 Low. Whether it was lever on the floor or a push button.

Sometimes they can’t change gears if there’s pressure or binding on the transfer case. This can result from any imbalance in the front and rear axle rotation, which happens all the time from just turning a corner or slight differences in tire diameter.

The usual best practice to relieve any pressure is roll the vehicle forward or backwards a bit. Move forward at a walking pace and put the transmission in neutral and just let it roll to a stop and then shift to 2H. If it’s binding and won’t shift then back up about ten feet and repeat letting it roll to a stop backwards.

If the above doesn’t result in a shift then you’ve got a malfunction. Sometimes the electronic shift system loses a sensor and doesn’t know what position it’s in, so it won’t even attempt a movement.

Old trick, I always back up 10-20 feet before shifting out of low, since all these transfer cases are electronically controlled, But I have a MY 19 with the BW 48-11 transfer case which was changed for the DT trucks starting in 2019.

Well, found the 4x4 acculator plug wasn’t pushed all the way in. Pushed it in, checked the truck, threw it in neutral, moved the shifter to 4WLow as the neutral button was flashing, causing me to remember it wasn’t properly put into neutral. Put it back to park and redid the proper trans neutral, and shift to 4wHI and all the lights went out and the 4WHI stayed on. Shifted back to 2w. I was relieved to say the least! @Brandon-w was a huge help over cell as he had me checking everything on the T case and inside under the dash. He had me
Removing my T case motor and checking that out. Thanks to Him and everyone who provided info!

Thanks buddy. I'm happy to help and glad it was easy as a shift motor is like $500 Canadian pesos last I checked. [emoji51]

-40 C temps yet?

It was -1 to -5F in February here. The 5th coldest of all time since they started keeping records. BUT, ah, NO, U can keep those magical cold numbers.
