:********:

This weekend's project! Installing some morimoto bi xenon projectors into my 2010's quad headlights.

So, what do you need for the install?
  • Headlights (quads or duals, doesn't matter). I purchased a new set for this project, as I didn't want to be without if issues pop up
  • Morimoto Bi Xenon H1 projectors - I got mine from Hahn at 3B Specialties
  • Dremel
  • Heat gun or oven
  • screw drivers........to bust into the headlight
  • patience.....LOL

I took lots of pics, so........here they are!

First off, here's what you are starting with:

Crack open the headlight! I used a heat gun. I won't go into how to crack it open......there are a few write ups around for that - let just say that its not the easiest thing. This is the part I hate the most. :flipthebird:

Remove the stock diffuser thingy (there is a tab on the back, flip that up and pull this out). you can see it in the second pic.

The Morimoto does not fit into the hole where the H11 bulb goes, so you need to open that up a smidge. A dremel with a sanding disk works great, and you don't need to take much off - a hair all the way around. I am cautious, so I taped up the bowl before I started cutting.

Done!

Next, you need to route the bi xenon's cutoff solenoid wires. These are very thin and will fit through the hole left when you removed the diffuser. (there is a connector on them when you get them, but I don't have a similar connector.....so I cut it off! works better to route the wires anyway).

The kit comes with a few connectors:

The one in the middle is a rubber ring, its used to butt up against the chrome bucket, and helps hold it tight, to prevent movement of the projector when you are driving. I also used the 3 tabbed connector on the left (it goes on the back and acts as a mounting plate that the nut butts up against).

Projector installed.

Back of projector, showing the 3 tabbed ring and the nut that holds the projector on. (note the 2 solenoid wires coming out too)

Next, head out to the truck.

If you don't already have HIDs, install your ballasts. Here's where I put mine:

Put the headlights in, and fire 'em up! Check your cutoff, make sure its not looking stupid!

Also make sure your high beams work!

DSC07579.jpg

Take the lights back out, head back in the house and put the shroud on the projector.

Time to clean up the bowls, insert and lens. Of course, I used my favorite!

DSC07555.jpg

Now......seal 'em up! You can use RTV or butyl tape. I decided to use butyl tape this time..........hope it works! LOL

Finished product.

yup, and I love that shifter.......

Grill pissed me off today anyway. You have to take the damn thing off to get to the headlights. I popped it off and it smacked my bumper pad........chipped and gouged the paint. DAMNIT......

if I wanted a sport.......I would have bought one. :D

its actually cheaper to just buy a factory painted grill too - $210. Can't beat that.
