I'm just trying to install some LEDs in the basic overhead console, and I cannot get the bulbs out to save my life, and I saw online that the whole console just pops down out of clips but I has hard as I tug on it it just stays there and I don't want to break it. Anyone have any hints? 2018 Tradesman.

I used a rubber band or a rubber thing you twist off jar lids. Easier then pulling the console down.

Thanks for the reply. I actually tried zip ties, I saw someone suggested that, then I finally decided to use some Gorilla tape and that pulled them right out. I replaced the license plate lights too, but the dome light is a different kind of light so I'm going to have to get one of those.

But that console did not want to come loose.

You can see the difference between the LED and the stock incandescent.

I don't give up easy

I used it to pull out the license plate bulbs too, they were also a little hard to pull out.

There's a YouTube video somewhere of the overhead console removal. You start pulling from back to front, there's a bunch of wire connectors up there.

I saw a couple of those, one of them was the same console I have and he popped it down. But mine was pulling the headliner and everything down, and the clips did not want to release, and I didn't want to break anything.

The dome light is a festoon bulb and I ordered a couple of those in LED.

The overhead can come down in two ways, you can pull just the plack inner panel or the whole beige surrounding trim with the black inner panel.

I recommend watching A video before doing it the first time as it will feel like you're going to break something (but you probably won't).

I agree the thing will come out, I just didn't want to end up having to spend another hundred bucks or more to buy new console just to replace the bulbs.

By the way another thing I tried was putting heat shrink tubing on the bulb while it was lit, then turning it off, and trying to pull it down. I think it would have worked, except that that I never let it cool down long enough, so the tubing slipped off.
