I have a 2019 Ram Bighorn. I was at the dealership getting my oil changed at 30,000 miles. They told me I was due for HVAC service at a cost of 225 dollars. I said no. I never heard of this before. Does anyone know about this or had it done. That seems like a lot for something I don’t know they do. That did not even include the cabin air filter.

Sounds like they are just trying to do an evac/recharge of your system. I’ve heard of recommended annual evac and recharge, but not on my 19 Ram or my 13 Ram. Wouldn’t hurt, but sounds like an up-sell to me.

Sounds like the dealer trying to drum up revenue. I've never had mine serviced, and it's worked fine year after year. When it's working less than optimally, I'll have it serviced.

Lol I've heard it all! The only thing they could realistically do is change the cabin air filter, inspect blend door and temperature adjustments and check for any DTC codes that may be present in hopes they can gouge you some more!

I've never heard of it either. Might be time to get on YouTube.

Run as fast and as far away from this stealership as possible. This goes for anytime someone is trying to sell you an refrigeration evac and recharge as any form of "maintenance". Refrigerant doesn't go bad over time, it just leaks out. Only time to be removing and recharging a system is when dealing with a mechanical repair of fixing a leak.

And technically it isn’t supposed to leak out

If FCA spent as much time with dealers improving their service departments as they do designing great looking/riding/running trucks, they’d be #1 instead of #2.

I’m still convinced the next great improvement step that will propel sales for FCA is attention to their network of service departments. They need to have a rep at every location who answers directly to Detroit corporate and ensures the highest level of service with zero shenanigans.

And finally, implement an audit system where FCA goes to dealerships as customers and see first hand the crap they pull. Then put it out there three strikes and we pull the dealership. Use a hammer and they will align.

Outstanding Idea!

They could start with one rep per "area". They would see the advantage immediately. Of course this also raises the opportunity for abuse. Dealership takes you to lunch. Your on the take:rolleyes:

Pay them good money and make sure they are "********". Give them a bonus for uncovering evil deeds LOL

Just another passing thought. I get it, trying to improve your profits. Just not by unnecessary service!

Try this Dealers. Try improving your customer service. Try making your customers want to be your customer. Pretend you are a prospective customer and see what the environment is like in your service department. Coffee and donuts do not mean squat if your service staff are not professional and courteous. And the $ are not reasonable and necessary.

Customers standing around waiting on help will not be happy and will not be willing to recommend your dealership.

The best way to increase profits is to have happy customers.

I am willing to bet that the overwhelming majority of customers see right through this ploy of HVAC service! You don't think that leaves a bad taste in their mouth? And wait until that person that unfortunately fell for your stupid HVAC Service figures out they were taken?

The goal is customer retention not customer gouging!

Was at the dealership getting a key cut.
There was a couple sitting there, guy came put with their dirty a/c filter and cabin filter.
$50 and $60 EACH!
I paid $15 for one I havnt bothered to put in yet.
I'll pay the outrageous sum to get the spark plugs changed, cause I is a decrepit and cranky old lady, but $60 for a paper filter?
Their oil change is about the same price as WalMart. Trust WM even less than the dealer!

This is what an HVAC service is:

IMO not worth it unless you have a bad smell coming from the HVAC. Keep the cabin filter changed regularly and you'll be good for many years to come. My 2013 HVAC has never been touched except by me changing the cabin filter annually. AC is ice cold and heat is hot.
