I'd stay away from a junkyard unless they can prove somehow that it works. That's the bad thing about them, their prices are usually pretty good, but you never know what you're getting

thanks. I'll have to get someone to look at it. I have reason to believe mine is turning south.

there is an odd feeling when accelerating from a stop. I can't quite pinpoint it. its like a slight bind. and it is only at a certain speed and situation, etc.

What is Jasper quoting you? Sometimes the warranty is worth the price on those.

It's all a matter of funding, rebuilds often offer the warranties but you're paying for it.

My biggest question is auto or manual. If you're looking for manual go to the junkyard, manuals are easy enough to rebuild yourself and you can usually get a manny tranny dirt cheap if its case is broken, then swap the good internals into your good casing.

local shop referred by jaspers website told me carry out: $2100 plus my old tranny. or $2660.00 installed. he said the labor is only $350, but he will cut me a break on his markup for a carryout price.

sounds like worse comes to worse, $2100 is not all too terrible of a deal considering the warranty. he said they are a stand up company and they haven't embarrassed him.

I'm going to see what a few of my dads friends have to say about my problems. I know one guy has rebuilt a few, one for my 4wd blazer. he did it for about $350.

Not a bad price, and yes Jasper is a good company to deal with.

I think I can baby it till tax season. I also think the "binding" hAs always been there. Or I'm just paranoid about the torque converter

Sounds like you have a plan of attack. In the price that the trans shop quoted you was that to also clean the lines and the trans cooler?

Here is my reply
ending on the condition of the transmission i can rebuild it for 600 plus a converter 120 for a dacco or you can up grade it (dacco is basically a stock dodge with minor upgrades). Billet converters run anywhere from 350 - 500. Or a lifetime warranty pure performance triple disk converter for 1300. Other than that a i would recommend a couple hundred dollars for aftermarket good stuff! This will make this transmission hold 500hp all day long and it will fix all of the factory "flaws" Either way i put a 1 year warranty on it but aftermarket parts will prolong the transmissions life

what do you suggest?

$1500 or so for a rebuild with some aftermarket parts and a billet converter sound reasonable, and a good option.
