Gentlemen...I made a mistake getting into a 2013 Challenger R/T. Unfortunately I had to drive it around for 2,600 miles to realize it wasn't for me. I'm looking to get back into a Ram. See the link...the most loaded SLT I've ever seen. Let me know what you guys think. Looking forward to getting back to the forum I should have never left.

No worries man. Glad you realized it so quickly though. I traded in my '97 1500 for a wrangler last summer. It took me 12 months and 15,000 miles to realize it wasn't for me. 12 months of payments down the drain. But I'm glad to be back in a truck.

Thanks dude. I hear you. It was a nice car...but no where near as practical as the Ram...and I realized how much I liked that truck. Someone got an awesome 2011 Ram...damn it.

If I went trail riding a lot, I could understand keeping the Jeep. But my need is more for hauling, and my off road preference is a muddy field. So going back to a V8 was a no brainer.

Even though that Internet window sticker says SLT, that truck is actually a Lone Star and will say as much on the actual window sticker. If you check at the end of the features list, it mentions the Lone Star package. My Big Horn was also listed as an SLT in the title of its Internet window sticker and noted the Big Horn package only at the very end of the list. On the actually window sticker, the SLT in the title was replaced with the Big Horn name.

That's a nicely equipped truck and it should be hugely discounted at this point with the 2014 trucks just around the corner.

Dude...I had a 2010 Chevy for a little and it had a 6-speed trans. On cruise control it would have to downshift for the slightest hill...I can't imagine how an 8-speed would be. I'd rather have the 6-speed I think...especially since they are just introducing the 8-speed...there may be some un-forseen problems with it. It's never a good idea to get into the 1st year of something new in my opinion. Thanks for the opinions though! They are greatly appreciated.

Can't really compare. Your chevy also only had like 315 hp, that's 80 less than the 2013 rams, plus the gears in it were probably high. My R/T could go up without downshifting on a local hill but my lonestar had to cause 3.55 vs 4.10 gears

Edit: Yupp chevy have 3.08 standard unless 3.42 or 3.73 are chosen

I suggest you read up on the 6-speed, that's actually a 5-speed, and very weak. The A8 is based on the ZF 8 speed and it's found in many world class European luxury vehicles. It's so close to being standard across the board in Ram trucks now, I would definitely hold out.

Your 2010 Chevy had the old weak version of the 5.3, so it's no surprise it downshifted. For the record, when I had my Ram it would do the same thing with cruise control, that's with 390hp and 3.55 gears.

Find a 8speed with the 3.92 gears and you will be fine. That tranny has been around for a while now in numerous cars with much more power than the Ram makes and has only had good reviews.

Well **** gentlemen...it may be too late...I just never saw an 8-speed trans as the new thing...as it WILL BE downshifting all the time.

Drive one, it's smooth as butter.

I own a RAM with an A8 and 3.92's and it doesn't shift all the time. Remember, the final 8th gear is the same as the 6speeds 6th gear, but the first couple gears are MUCH lower than the 6 speeds. IMO you must drive it before commenting on it. Oh and I don't mean for a 10 minute test drive.

I wish my Ram 2500 had a couple extra gears between 0 and 6.
While I totally understand 'may be too late' I also would hold out for the A8.
