its coming through a big grommet in the firewall from what i can tell. everything is functioning fine on the truck at this point. it's a thin wire. about the gauge of speaker wire but not speaker wire head unit and speaker are working fine) extra wire for some feature i don't have? it was kind of sitting between my brake pedal and my parking breake dangling down, bare end on it.

edit- any chance this is one of those underdash light wires (which i don't have those)

If it’s out of the factory wire loom then it can be something different. Have you looked in the engine compartment to see if you can see where the wire runs

It almost looks like the wire for the factory remote start. Purple with a blue tracer.

winner winner, chicken dinner! given the time of year it is wouldn't have thought to have checked that. i was making sure everything else worked. lights, electronics etc. i traced it to the "hood open" switch. sure enough when i went to remote start the truck i got the hood open message. the dealer is right by work and its the ram oem remote so its on warranty and i'll let them deal with it.

So somehow to was pulled out of the BCM. That’s rough

Good thing you caught it now and not when it’s 30 or 20 degrees out

after reading up a bit about the BCM, my guess at what happened is the wire was not secured well when dealer installed the remote control at purchase. i've been using my parking brake frequently since reading about the park pawl and parking on an incline and the wire got snagged.

edit- yep, exactly what happened. i found the wire from the bcm end caught up in the parking brake mechanism. all they had to do was anchor the wire to the big loom beside it with some tape or a clip and it would have been fine. but, no. let it just hang there instead. they charge 745 canadian for the kit and and to install the remote. i figure that's about 2 hours labour at 140 canadian an hour. do better. (that was by the selling dealership, not where i take it for service thankfully) shoddy work.
