You do that day after day and you're going to break an axle, quick.

Get a trailer - you'll save money from those axle replacements you'll be doing on a monthly basis. You are WAY overloading that thing, and having it as water only makes it worse.

I once put 1 ton of wood pellets in the bed of my 02 Chevy 1500, and said" well next truck will need to be 3/4 ton. I drove really slow and prayed I didn't break anything. Then I bought a 3/4 ton and I hauled the same load 190 miles, passed all kinds of vehicles and had a **** eating grin the whole way.. Love my 2500.

i just bought this truck i cant just trade it in and get a 2500, though i looked at one maybe should have gotten it. I was just wondering if i should reduce the amount of water, and i got a clear answer haha, im trying to find a trailer or a beeter truck for no more than 500 bucks and just load it full in that... trailers that are licenced here in the bay area are about 1.5-3k, so for now i will only fill it to 200 gallons which is 1600lbs and from the chart i read online im rated to 1750 in the bed i could be wrong but its with in a 100lbs and should be fine.

Careful hauling that much weight with the tote without baffles not full. It gives the water room to slosh. 1600# pushing and pulling front, back and side to side.

I had 2/3 cubic yard of gravel in the bed of my 1/2 ton regular bed. According to the interwebs, that was about 1,800 - 2,000lbs.

Only did it once and only for about 3-4 miles. She was saggin' like Tupac.

I go to the recylced water plant and pick up reclaimed water to water my yard, so i dont use fresh water to water it... im in califonia and in a huge drought

Interesting. They water the lawn at the Univ. of Idaho with reclaimed poop water. Lots of signs telling folks not to drink the irrigation water!

You could hold more, yes. The only thing I ever caution people over is the transfer of shock load. That has to go somewhere. So the additional resistance the bags give you in the springs has to transfer the strain somewhere else, typically your spring mounts will take it because the springs are no longer absorbing as much as they did, or the frame if they are mounted against one of the tails.

So if install bags, i could carry 2300 lbs or atleast more than 1600 roughly... i just want to beable to move more water, i pref not to buy a trailer because the HOA will not allow me to park it at my house... So would be nice to increase payload. Of course i have reduced the amount of water im hauling around to prevent damage. Also of course i will not increase payload to prevent further damage to axles ext. But if bags can increase it with out causing damage to the vehicle... PERFECT. They opened a new water station closer to my house. So there is 3 miles i will be hauling this water. Yet this new Plant also does not allow trailers

Legally no, the truck still has to support the weight somehow whether it be through the springs or airbags. If you wanted to haul 2300 pounds in the bed of a truck you should get a truck that can support it on a regular basis.

theres nothing you can do to increase payload. if your stuck on using your truck, you would be much better off with new springs instead of the air bags. or new springs and bags. the bags by themselves wont give you what you need for that kind of weight.

If i understand correctly, i wouldnt be switching out the spring with bags, i would be running both. i know not legally, i just need to get about 600lbs. i understand that a 2500 would be perfect, and if im stuck with what i am at, then ill keep hauling 200gallons, but if bags can help me get 600 lbs then i would want to buy them.

You'd need springs and bags in my opinion. That's a lot of liquid load all wallowing right over the rear axle. That's a different scenario than having 2300lbs spread over all 4 axles.

I would do it with the following conditions:
1. Replace coils and add bags both- the more roll control you have, the better.
2. Even that short distance is going to play hell on your brakes.
3. Remember with that weight all right over the axle, you are one big bump away from separating your axle tube, bending a shaft, snapping lugs, bending or breaking a coil mount, or cracking a rim- worst case scenario bending your frame.

My thoughts on this come with no warranty, and you should do what you're comfortable doing. Looking at face value we're only talking 600lbs extra. That's an extra 300lbs per wheel. But in the grand scheme of it, we're looking at 2300lbs sitting right on that rear axle. If you had an idea what your rear axle weight was empty we could make a better decision. I'd hate to see you bend your frame or snap something in a pothole :/

EDIT: I am not wanting to be a hypocrite. I run overweight a lot. The beefier springs, tires, shocks help it handle the load like a champ, but that is spread out over four axles not two.

You have asked the same question many times now. You obviously have your mind made up and you are just looking for someone to agree with you. Yes, the truck probably can handle the weight if equipped correctly, but at what cost? A couple times a year I would say is fine provided you go back roads where there are no big bumps. If you are doing it every month or even more often than that you are flat out asking for trouble.
