I just purchased a 06 Ram 1500 5.7L and started an oil change today. Ordered a PH16/51085 filter as direct replacement, however the one that came off the truck is very different. The one off the truck is smaller in diameter and has a larger thread size (making it impossible to screw on the new filter). The part number off the old filter is: 04892339aa/50048919 which interchanges to a 57060 filter (which fits a 2013 5.7L). Is there any easy way to determine if the engine in this truck was replaced with a 2013 5.7L?

Thank you for any and all help on this!

Find the engine serial number on the engine block and decode the number, will tell you the year, etc. There are a bunch of places can be so you need to just Google the subject, find the number and then de-vin the number.

1 example of many:
Where is the serial number on a Hemi engine?

The serial number for modern Hemi engines is located on the driver's side valve cover. should be a white sticker with two bar codes. The top one (starts with TNXE) is the serial number.

TNXE is the engine serial number. GOOGLE and find engine vin decoder. Look at post #6 and find the stamped number if you want to narrow it down more.

THE decal on valve cover assumes that the Valve Cover is from that motor and not another.

FYI P53022755HA (engine assembly part number) is for 5.7's in 06-08 1500's.

More info:
Look at the base of the block just above the oil pan, flat milled section.
should start with a number then 2 letters then 5.7.
1st # = year
1st letter= month
2nd letter=day followed by 5.7

This is what i got from my research and it's accurate for the 2003 to 2008.

TNXE6240711274 from your sticker. But I do not know how accurate that info is, taken off another forum.

THIS is the closest I can get in the time I have, got animal chores to do, you prob got to do a lil more research. You gonna have to find number on block and do that research. YOU find thayt number, maybe U can talk to a local dealer also and have them run the number, if U know the service guy (THIS just a thought)

From what I recall, dodge went from a 3/4” thread filter to a 22mm thread filter some time in 2008 model year. Could have an ‘08 engine in there perhaps? Also vaguely recall the ‘08 and later filters being interchangeable, though the later filters were quite a bit smaller but same thread.
