Significantly Increasing low-end power? Stroker maybe?

Hey guys,

Ok, so I got my Procharger D-1SC Supercharger installed a few weeks back and it has been great so far. It has really helped to increase the upper RPM range power, but it didn't do a whole lot for the low end unfortunately. So, I would like some suggestions on how to pick up some significant low-end power.

I would really like to get the 0-60 time of this truck down to 5 seconds or less. The truck in its stock form was able to do it in about 7 seconds and now after the SC install around 6 seconds. I bet if I were at sea level, it would probably already be there, but I'm up here at 5000ft so we are constantly battling the lower air pressure and you have to add a lot of power to see much gains in general.

So, what would be your guys best recommendation of additional mods to help get me down to a 5 second or less 0-60? Should I go all out and have a stroker kit installed, or is there something else less costly that you think could help get me there with this already supercharged Hemi? Please also keep in mind that this truck is a daily driver and I want to maintain decent MPG and driveablity.

Thanks

Got long tubes yet? They seem to work very well on the Hemi and I'm sure the gains would be even more significant with the blower.

I thought about that briefly, but I think at this elevation just adding headers isn't going to make enough of an impact and I'm looking to take care of this all in one fell swoop. Judging by what I've experienced with the SC add, I'm thinking I'm going to have to add more than 100 additional more HP to get it down another second or so for the 0-60.

I'm debating the magnuson kit vs the procharger kit. The maggie will hit full boost damn near right off idle , great low to top end power. You could get a blower cam and add methanol injection for more power.

Headers only shows an increase of something like 25hp/40tq. This is WITHOUT a supercharger or supporting mods. The engine is choked off from the factory and you thin headers are not worth it? Let the engine breath a bit. Not only will you gain HP from better exhaust flow, but you will be able to add boost as well.

Yea, my speed shop has the max boost that is safe on the stock pistons/rings, which is about 8psi. That I-1 variable ratio system looks cool, but it doesn't sound like that is an add on to what I have, but a whole other supercharger model.

Not saying headers aren't good, just saying it's not going to get the gain I want with them alone. Might get some shorties though to optimize the low RPM range while increasing flow.

The speed shop that installed it is recommending a higher stall torque converter to help better acceleration. What do you guys think of that idea? Will that make much of a difference you think?

BTW, what kind of gains can be expected from a blower optimized cam?

Thanks

4.10 or 4.56 gears. Surprised you're only low 6's 0-60. My '14 was mid 5's constantly and was nearly stock

Yea, but I'm at 5000ft; elevation kills power unfortunately :(

Due to past experiences, I have already made the decision not to increase the gear ratio as it decreases mileage too much. I currently have the highest stock ones though, which is 3.93 I believe.

The single mod that gave me the biggest low end gains was my TC. The headers also helped a bit too , but getting the power down to the ground with the stall was by far the best mod I've done. That is however with a six speed. I think headers would be a big benefit for you with your procharger as well. Let it breathe!!

Good to hear that! I think some BBK shorties and the TC recommended by my speed shop is a good starting point and they are relatively cheap too.

What about blower cams? Any worthwhile gains there that won't kill MPG?

I would go with a set of long tubes, way more beneficial for our trucks , I have ARH, but many will argue to just go with some JBA's or meet in the middle with stainless works. But definitely go with long tubes. With your sc I would also say go with 1 7/8 primaries. I'm sure others will throw in their .02 as well

I've read that shorties are best for SC applications and increasing low range RPMs, but I'm open to feedback from people who have tested them compared to long tube. I really want to aim on pumping up the low range performace.

What TC did they recommend?

We didn't get into the specifics, we were just talking about some things to boost the acceleration. I'll talk to him more this week and get some more details.

Then get shorties and be happy. Headers do not affect every vehicle the same. You already spent money going the blower route so I am not sure why you are trying to skimp at this point. Your thread is specifically about increasing low-end torque......... Shorties do NOT increase bottom end, even with a supercharger on these things. Shorties dont do much for our trucks unfortunately (because you are right, the price is right) but if thats what are set on, go for it. In 6 months when you are still unhappy, itll be an expensive lesson.

Go look up some dyno sheets. Most people who put shorties on our trucks regret it. And if you notice, your links are speaking of turbos, not superchargers.
