That looks more like it is the part above the breather tube where it might have soaked up some blowby (oil and gas).
guys, I changed my air filter today in my 2014 Ran 1500, after one year and 15k miles, and noticed only a very small area of the filter is actually being used..... doesn't look very efficient to me... just thought I'd share
That filter looks new. I'd leave it till it's black.
Did you know a dirty filter filters better than a new filter.
Dirt plugs the larger holes. Yes, the filter gets more restricted.
But as it gets dirtier the holes in the element get smaller therefore trapping smaller dirt particles.
You can change filters too often.
IMO.
Your theory is true if you're talking K&N.They have to be half plugged before they start doing a good job.Paper filters do the job right from the start.
I didn't get this,Time to replace your pcv valve.
Even paper filters clean better dirty. K&N, Fram, etc does not matter.
Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one!
There's been a **** wagon load of studies done on K&N and they all come up with the same conclusion. They just don't do the job of filtering that an OEM paper filter can do right from day one.And that is when the K&N has been properly serviced which most of them probably aren't.
They have their place(racing application where the motors are built frequently)but not for everyday driving.I wouldn't have one in my 20 year old lawn mower.
I didn't get this,
More info please....
Noob here, isn't it that that pcv line connected near TB, after not before the airfilter?Your pcv valve draws a suction from the crankcase. Your make air line draws fresh air from above your air filter into the valve cover. If your pcv system is not working correctly you can get excessive blowby through the make up air line.
He's got a 4th Gen. PCV dumps straight into the intake manifold just after the throttle body. Crankcase vent/make-up is piped to the OEM airbox pre-filter. Could be that is where some oil is coming from, but not a PCV thang per se.Time to replace your pcv valve.
