If all goes well I'll be installing mine tomorrow.

Curious: you going to put it in the tow-hook slot, or somewhere else?

Everybody who's done this, are these too "scattered" or bright to be on full-time (I.E. DRL + improved nighttime illumination in low-beam at least)? Or do they need to be treated like hi-beams?

Has anybody successfully put one between rear bumper and bottom of tailgate -- tied into reverse lights?

These are entirely too bright to be used around any traffic.
High beam or offroad use only.

Definitely not enough room to fit one between the bumper and tailgate.

I'm putting mine across the top of the windshield. I have a double stack 50". 23,100 lumens so it's not for use in traffic but I live on a dirt road so I can use the light often and when I go hunting. I usually set up early.

Please post pictures of the light on your roof when you're done. I'm debating between doing the 42" in the bumper like the OP or possibly a 50" across the top. I can't decide yet. TIA

I'm also debating a 42" Cree or a 50-52" on the roof. Only thing is I heard the roof mounted lights usually make a lot of noise on highway...

I'll be able to tell you how much noise by the end of today. Lol maybe I'll have to turn the radio louder.

Will do. I'm also putting 3" cubes in the bumper if it works out.

This is a test fire of it, I plugged it into the foglight

Very tight, I might add a few washers to bring it a bit further out.

I threw in a before picture (last one). The rest are after. The cubes are mounted on a metal bracket to the tow hooks. I'll go take some night shots so you can see the difference.

Here are some comparison shots.

1st pic; This is how dark the street actually is without any lighting. No exaggeration, I matte framed it so you didn't think it was a joke.

2nd pic; OEM headlights with fog lights

3rd pic; 3" cubes added

4th pic; 50" LED strip

5th pic; same lights against bushes so you can see the light pattern

The holes to mount it were in the door jam, not on the roof. Rivets hold the brackets on. It took me a long time waiting before anyone fabricated a mount like that for my truck. I finally got it from Addictive Desert Designs , one of our preferred vendors. Wasn't cheap but made really well. I have no complaints.

Any noise on the highway from wind and drag?

I noticed not wind noise but what sounds like a vibration. At first I thought someone was behind me with a booming car stereo but it turned out to be my truck. I drove different speeds and I only get the rumble between 45 - 55mph. It's not that the light is loose but I think because it's so long that maybe the center flexes in a vibratory frequency. I can't feel it though, I can only hear it. Above or below those speeds I can't tell it's on. I can't even see it from inside the cab. The noise isn't even noticeable if my stereo is on at even half it's volume. I heard it while I was on the blue tooth talking to the wife so the music was off. The worst part about the 50" is the light that bounces off my white hood but the road is still plenty light enough so it's not a problem.
