I got a Junsun head unit and a tailgate handle and camera from my wonderful Wife for Christmas, so I decided to make a thread on installation.

Head unit front and back:

Accesories and connectors:

More accesories and connectors:

Backup camera and cable, not using atm:

The tailgate handle camera and harness:

Bear with me for the installation, but I promise it won't take 6 months like my cam and lifter job...lol

Oh, and FYI, my a/c vents I could never close off. Today, I found out why:

The little plastic cams are missing, presumably on all vents. In fact, my right hand passenger side vent NEVER had airflow I'll bet that the shutoff flap is closed, stay tuned.....

Back to the install.

Remove the rubber pad above the radio, and then the 2 T20 torx screws under it.20251227_130416.jpg
Pull back on the top of the assembly, be gentle but firm. It should pop loose.

Lean it back an unhook the various connectors for the climate control, etc. All have side thumbtabs EXCEPT the Shifter knob, which has a red lock tab that has to be slid back first, like many other connectors on the Ram.

Once the panel is free go to the workbench and remove the 13 black philips screws around the outside of the radio bezel.

Remove the 4 silver philips screws around the climate control module and remove the module from the bezel and transfer it to the new bezel. Also transfer the 4 orange trim clips to the new bezel.

Place the new bezel into the dash asssembly and reinstall the 13 philips screws to hold it in place.20251227_133923.jpg

I ran my camera cable into the cab through a plastic plug underneath the rear seat, snaked it under the threshold trim along the driver side doors.

Crossed over to the center under the carpet almost at the top of the driver side footwell.

I DID NOT tie in the red and black wires near the rear camera to the reverse lights, but I did tie the red wire at the head unit, and when I put the truck in reverse, THE CAMERA WORKED!

The picture is not the greatest, but I can address that later. I may hook up the camera that came with the unit just to see if the picture quality is any better.

Stay tuned for more pics, I'm trying to hook up the camera wire behind the unit, so bear with me.

I don't like the adaptive grid lines, maybe there's a setting for the style.

I will have to play around with the settings, but overall, I like it so far.

Any "lost communication" errors when you scan for codes?

I've been wondering if the gateway module will set any codes when it loses comms with the OEM radio.

I will have to check that when I get a chance.

The tailgate handle camera has a not-so-great picture, I need to try the supplied one, to see if it's any different.

So, how is this thing working out?

Any codes set when the OEM radio dropped off the network?

Kinda wondered if there was an option in AlfaOBD for disabling the "integrated Center Stack", so the network wouldn't be looking for the OEM radio and setting codes.

Like, one of these perhaps.

Ya know, I haven't checked for codes, and the system is quirky at times, might be all in my settings.

I haven't had alot of time to really go through things.

The radio sound is very toned down, like having the tone knob at minimum

Sound from my phone files is pretty good, totally different that radio from the head unit.

The built-in mic leaves a little to be desired, but there are setting for it I believe. I have not gotten my steering wheel phone buttons to work, just haven't had time to juzt sit and go through it.

I like it overall, but I'm sure a name brand replacement would do much better, at 5 or 10 times the price, too.

Sorry everyone, I screwed the pooch following up on this thread, I'm around the corner and over a couple states away from the follow-up on this.

I'll try to update this hopefully after next week, flying to Flint, MI and driving with my Niece and her Hubby to PA to celebrate my Sister's B-day. She has no clue I'm coming, and we haven't seen each other in a little more than 4 years.

I know this post is a little older, but just saw it and thought I could add a little info. Installed a Junsun unit in my '16 last fall. Mainly wanted CarPlay so picked up a cheap $150 Junsun unit.
CarPlay works good, and is wireless.
The corded connection does not seem to work...but the wireless works so not an issue.
I'm not aware of any codes or issues. Haven't actually dug into the system to look for stored codes but nothing apparent (no check engine light, etc...).
I don't think the backup image (factory camera) is quite as good, but is okay.
I don't think the music sound quality is quite as good either. Still messing with the settings, and recently found out on of the speakers was dead. I'm not a huge music person so not overly worried about it.
The instructions are fairly poor and the menus and options are not that intuitive....and probably the reason the unit is cheap. I've spent quite a bit of time snooping through the menus looking for stuff.
There are options to turn off the rear backup lines that I found.
The microphone is not that great (when using the phone). When sitting still people say I sound fine, but when driving they say they get a periodic loud background sound...like if you pass a semi on the freeway.

Yeah, if i've got my AC cranking, there's alot of noise. I did not use the external mic.

Sound is very different between my files and the radio. For $150, I really didn't expect much.

I guess it is what it is. I can deal with it for a bit, I have not dug really deep into it.
