I’m sure this has been addressed in some form, but, I need advice. I have a 2016 Ram 1500 4x4. I’ve started noticing when I shut it off, and, remove the key the gauge cluster lights stay on like they’re supposed to, and, then go off. However, in about 10 seconds the shift knob, and, the instrument cluster light up again for a bit, and, then go back off. If you sit there long enough, in the dark, they will light up again and go off. It has the 8.4 touch screen if that helps anything. Any thoughts?

Something is waking the truck up. Is the radio turning on as well? Do you have any aftermarket electrical accessories installed?

The other thing that comes to mind is a faulty door switch.

Just the shifter lights and the gauge lights. Radio display remains dark. No aftermarket accessories installed. I also notice the 8.4 unit makes weird noises shortly after it powers off. Sort of sounds like a CD player noise engaging , plus, other subtle noises . Eventually quits. Thanks

I have a 2018 Ram 1500 Tradesman and it does the same thing. It's like the systems go to sleep at different times. They only seem to do it once and there doesn't seem to be any long term drain on the battery.

Does your radio unit makes weird noises, as well, for a bit. I sat in the truck in pitch black, and, watch it light up, and, listen to the weirdest noises coming from the 8.4.

The noises are probably (if they are the same as on mine) just the blend doors in the hvac system cycling. They are behind the radio. It freaks my wife out every time she stays in the truck while I run into a store.

Never thought about that. There seems to be plenty of blend doors. Lol. I just went out to the truck to make sure which lights were waking up. It’s the shifter, gauges, and, the center info in the middle lightens, and, darkens, then all go out.

I’ve heard the blend doors move after the trucks been off for a bit, never heard extra noises from the speakers though.

Sorry, noise not coming from the speakers. As Kad states, it’s coming from the radio area. Blend doors are behind the radio.

Did you ever come up with anything else, as to the cause?

Sorry, but no. It happens every time and doesn’t seem to have any negative affects on the battery.

A 2015 Durango we used to own and the 2017 Pacifica my wife drives do similar things so I’ve just accepted it in my truck. There’s been a couple of other things in the truck that feel like half baked software and I put this on that list. I decided getting these things fixed/changed would be similar to dealing with Apple or Microsoft and that I had better ways to spend my time.

Turn off the screen and change the volume of the stereo and the bar graph appears.
The airplay volume seems to be a different adjustment from the am/fm/Mx radio and can’t be adjusted unless the phone is connected.
I was able to get the back camera stuck on also but I’ve forgotten how.

Interior lights cycling off causes the lights to come back on a second time after they go off when the door is closed. The lock/unlock button, and pushing the mute bttuon causes them to illuminate, but, they don’t come on a second time. Blender doors are randomly working as well, with the engine off. Thought this might help someone else with the same issue.

Yes, it 100% normal. All the trucks do it. After it sits for a while turned off they adjust to a neutral position.

Thanks for the reply. I thought so, but here’s what’s happening:

It has an issue with the gauge lights/shifter lights, and, blend doors cycling with the power off. I’ve noticed the gauge lights cycle off when the door is closed, as it should, however, when the interior light lights time out, the cluster lights come back on. App. 3 minutes later the blend doors behind the radio cycle. Pushing the volume/mute, engaging lock/unlock, or, turning the light control from auto to off will cause them to come on, followed by the blend doors cycling. Seems that any switch with positive Flow will activate the cluster lights, and, the blend doors will follow app. 3 minutes later. Thanks

That does sound unusual. I was doing some work on mine yesterday (installing my prototype LCD Touchscreen aux switch panel) so I had it sitting with the door open for a while and I tried to pay more attention to what it was doing. I heard the blend doors cycle a few times, but as far as I can recall only once a few minutes after it was shut off each time. I don't recall the cluster or any other lights (other than the dome lights) coming on or staying on.

It almost sounds as if there might be some chaffed wires somewhere. Not a short in the traditional sense of shorting to ground, but a short in the sense of two positive wires touching so that when something, say a blend door, is energized, other components are as well. I'm not even sure where you'd start tracking that though...

Dome lights seem to activate the blend doors, when they deviate from normal operation, when they cycle On/off. Blend doors cycle every time this occurs, about 3 minutes later. Thanks

Mine does it too. 2015 Laramie Limited 4x4. I thought it might be something connected to my UConnect. Checking electrical systems for the report it sends out.

Noticed that the dash lights come on when you close the hood. Jus t doesn’t make sense..must be an issue for a lot of vehicles. I’ve checked everything that I know to.
