looking for some good pics of a intercooler setup on a 3rd gen. dont care which motor it has as long as its a gasser. i need to start getting mine together for my vortech setup. any pics will help me out. looking for how the intercooler is mounted and how the piping was ran. heck even pics of a second gen would also be helpful.

Bump for ya. You plan to turbo it?

no turbo. thought about it. but alot of bs to get it all to run correctly. plus i know nothing about them. i have a vortech supercharger. gonna run 12lbs of boost. gonna start out with the stock pulley first though.(8lbs.) already have the 12lb pulley also. just gonna start out smaller. but wanna keep the air charge temps nice and cool.

What's wrong with a factory Cummins IC? Bolts right up.

never really thought about it before. a cummins intercooler might bolt right in there. even though i have a gas motor.(5.9,360 magnum) gonna research that a little bit.

Wish I had better pics... I can get some more for ya today sometime. But this is all I got now. What you see is actually my AC, but behind it is the intercooler. I'll get better ones. Mines a diesel but it might help with your idea

I'd think there would be more "bs" with a supercharger. Check out the STS kits.

i did check out sts. that was the other route i was leanin towards. just dont think that was the right setup for me.plus i am a turbo idiot. no nothing about them really.and there alot of dakota guys i can cheat off of to help me out runnin s/c's.

and the s/c i got comes as a complete kit. just missing a couple pieces.(bigger injectors, 2 bar map sensor). the other stuff i am just changing. no boostapump. changing complete pump in tank. and gonna do a intercooler setup. it doesnt come with a i/c setup. looking to make the most power i can. and really dont need the bigger injectors either or 2 bar map sensor. just makes tuning alot easier for hemifever. plus i am gonna run 12lbs so i just wanted to do it right from the giddyup.lookin for 500+rwhp.

You'd think if you got a CTD intercooler and just some pipe custom bent would work

Sorry it took me a couple days to get these pics. I went out of town. But her is the best I can do for ya man.

It mounts in front of the cross bar that everyone mounts the "behind the grill lights" The radiator is behind that. The inlet and the outlet are on the side. The basically 90 degree off the side and shoot back towards the engine. (looking at the truck) the inlet is on the left, and the exit is on the right.

Sorry for the ****** pictures, all I got with me is my phone.

This is on the drivers side. It mounts to that top cross bar were the hood latches

Same side...you can see the exit heading to my intake horn

Exit heading to the intake horn, I couldn't get the inlet side bc its covered by a plastic shroud

The stock Cummins intercooler is only designed for 5.9L at whatever they rev to. (3000 rpm?) It will be to small for you.

WTF does RPM have to do with intercooler size? :slap:

Let me answer that: Nothing..

It's psi capability, flow-rate, efficiency, and psi drop. RPM has absolutely NOTHING to do with intercooler size, period.

If anything, the Cummins FMIC may be too big for 8-12psi, as the core is of a large volume, and there may be 1-2psi drop in boost from SC to intake manifold.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but people shouldn't post incorrect information.

Something like a Precision AS1025 (~$360) would be plenty efficient, as it's fairly compact (31.50L x 8.00H x 3.50D, 2.75" Inlet/Outlet ) and will support 600hp as an Air/Air FMIC.

I've got no affiliation with Precision Turbo, other than experience with their product, having used it many times in most of my previous builds.

My last build was a 550whp Subaru, using a GT3255RE, PTE AS1025 fmic, 27psi, 880cc injectors, water injection, worked 2.0L heads, 2.5L block, 9.7:1 CR, billet rods, knife-edged crank, B&BP, walbro 255, ported Cosworth oil pump, TGV deletes, gasket-matched porting and much more.. All machine work by Howard and Tommy @ ARFab (now CNC Engine Dynamics.)

That's 551 whp, 607 lb/ft TQ @ 5800rpm

I do 100% agree about a Cummins IC likely being to large for the application. It was merely and idea. Even a factory Cummins runs what 20+ PSI, it would definitely cool the charge, but as mentioned, you'd likely loose boost.

It would definitely work; I didn't mean that it wouldn't. I was more making the statement(s) that the RPM of a Cummins is irrelevant to the size of the intercooler.

:)
